Pioneer Spec Gear Thread

If you have a convetional two-shaft analog Supertuner II with search, with-wo Dolby to spare I'd like one for the Honda fairing on my Rollfast...seriously. The UX-1 has a clock and memory that has a constant residual drain and I'd put it in one of the sheds to play when I'm out there if I could find one. I sold it for maybe 4-1 bucks more than I spent but it's a hindsight thing and I cannot see my own hind.

My uncle had an original Supertuner underdash with cassette in his 1979 Pinto and DSOTM sounded great!

How many quid do I skid, guv'na?

I'm 45 in June and that is a lot of spinning for a simple moose from Frostbite Falls.
I won't be selling any of my car audio gear, as I've owned them since new. Now, those pieces will be installed in my 1971 Buick GS455 in due course. I regretted selling a few pieces 15 years ago to a friend- and he won't sell them back to me. The Pioneer Component series are difficult to find, and don't come up for sale... at least the ones that still work.

Nando.

I have been in audio for awhile. How come I never heard of the Pioneer spec gear? I never really liked Pioneer now that is just my opinion. To each his own. I would like to hear it. Some day it may change my mind.

Well considering it was made in the mid to late 70's unless you were a teenager then and frequented audio stores, you probably wouldn't run into any. I'd like to know how Lee found the shed full of it an how he knew it was worth buying? :rabbit:

Cause I stumbled into a stereo store in Billings montana after a year in the oilfield with a pocket full of cash and plenty of dope in stash, so, go buy something. I was 19 years old, had 10K in my pocket, hair down to my ass, looked like warmed over death, and the salesman wouldnt let me touch a thing till I laid down 5K for a damage deposit. Auditioned the Spec stuff, the Crown Distinction Series, A Mac setup, and Kenwoods 700 stuff. For one hour I tortured the sound room, cleaned out half of the Rimrock mall till the salesman said ENOUGH!! Pioneer was the only gear that had all the components I wanted, Spec 1, Spec 2, SG 9500, RG-1, TX-8500. Oh, that and a pair of Kornerhorns. Been an audiophool ever since.

I agree: Lee, tell the story of how you came upon the Pioneer Spec gear. I heard it on Tapeworms when you first joined, and I knew then, I had a friend for life.

Nando.

Now the shed full happened to be at an estate sale. Started a thread on it at TH and AK. Check my stats, i didn't start that many threads, should be easy to find.

You liked the Pioneer better than the Crown? In those days there wasn't much better than Crown in my eyes. I'm glad you liked my little PL. LOL

Larry

Larry, like I told ya, IF THAT WAS MY 700B, my Spec would be doing back up duty, after that last round of late night stuff with Joe that 700 is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO close t sounding like that Spec just with a lot more power.

IIRC, the Crown i auditioned was a Distinction Series DL-2, and once again the bass was not what i liked. I don't like "mushy" bass. I want it tight and fast, the Crown didn't have it.

Ok, give me a minute and i'll link both. Nando, I've been locked out of my "User control panel" at TH. You'll have to link that one. I'll do the one from AK.

I get the same message even after logging out, clearing cookies and logging back in. Must be some server or forum issues.:rabbit:

Interesting story Lee. I couldn't see the images but I got the general idea. :thumbright:
