    Which rectifier for PL700 ?

Those I gots, but in 630v. Thanks for confirming the rectifier tho, I just wanted to get the right thing. Once I do this part, maybe on to swapping out the driver board this fall. Have to get my replacement JBL woofers in first tho. Had an accident with an interconnect that caused enough...

    Which rectifier for PL700 ?

Got my new caps from Nav a couple weeks ago, and I'm putting together a Mouser order. He suggested the larger rectifier. Anyone have a preferred part number ? Eventual plan is White Oak, but baby steps :) this one OK ? 905-KBPC5006T

    700B bench tested

You can dunk those resistors in some sort of liquid to up the ratings. Oil is best since its not corrosive or conductive but for short term use you can just immerse them in tap water, make your measurements, and then dry the resistor off afterwards. The resistance of the water won't be...

    Man Cave Must Have

There was a fake fireplace in this house when we moved here. Not one with a stereo though. The logs were white birch. I burned them in my wood stove. Let me tell you what, those SOB's burned like mad. Figure they had been seasoned for about 40 years.

Carver C-500 - valid candidate for White Oak Audio upgrade???

You can definitely see the similarity to a PL 700-II though. Looks like the inside chassis are is shrunken to the point where it would be obnoxious to work on.

    Paused the audio.......

Looks like a vacuum gauge to me.

    Paused the audio.......

well, I did get in touch wth him, and I got a quote that I can live with. Now I need to ship it out and get that underway. He says turnaround is 4-5 business days, so if I get my crap together I might get this done before it gets too hot to want to do this. This will turn into a can of worms...

    Paused the audio.......

I was gonna guess '74+. Looks like the shock bumper rear fenders with elephant foot lamps. If my decade old VW fanboy knowledge survives, that started in 1974. I had a '73 which was a one year rear fender, non-shock bumpers with the big round tails. I need to get on my car stuff too. I...

    PL 700B Faceplate

If you ever happen to need measurements or pics of a Pro 700 faceplate, let me know. They are slightly different than the other 700 series faceplates. May not be much of a demand for them though, I think I own the only one on the site here.

A James B. SST Preamp transformer!! Woof!!

leads arent fat enough, and it doesn't look physically big enough to contain enough iron for that kind of power rating either. You really don't need special magic for a preamp transformer. They run class A, so the power demands are stable. It doesn't need a huge reserve of power capacity to...

Clair Bros piece of history on eBay

oh, not really related, but did you guys see the post on AK where a dude is making new PL 400 faceplates? http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=650098 they're black, which is why it came to mind. Maybe he can be convinced to do a batch of 700 faceplates sometime.

    Substandard Components Claims

Are they CC? Pretty sure mine are wire-wound. The two seams on the case tend to indicate that anyway. Also, the fact that they don't seem to have drifted any in the last 30 years tends to make me think they are not carbon comp.

    PL 4000 Restoration

The back mounted jacks look nice. The stock ones are pretty crappy. I stole the rear output jacks on my friend's to replace the broken phono input jack. He's not using it 4 channel but he does have a turntable. I also had to re-flow all of the motherboard connections to make it go. Worked...

    Glen's 700 series II build

What is D4 wired across? If it sits across the relay coil, then you probably want it there. It would be used as a flyback diode in that spot to keep it from smoking the driver transistor. If not that, the guy that made it probably knows :)

    what are you listening to?

ipod on random. Currently on Dyna-Moe Hum. Using the Pilot FA-590 tuner/preamp and the Pilot SA-260 power amp.

    Phase Linear 2000 troubleshooting

Do these things have a "death cap" that ties one side of the power line to chassis for a pseudo-ground reference? I wonder if that might be causing hum if that is the same place the RCA jacks ground to. I dont know if they were still doing that stuff by the 70s, but it was very common in the...

    Phase Linear 2000 troubleshooting

They don't have neutral wires over there either. 220v, both are hot. I suppose there is a possibility of inverted phase on the power wiring though. Not sure if the cords can be flipped over, but that might be worth a try.

Rock concerts (not) to see again

I don't really go to many concerts. Mostly its because they tend to be too loud and sound horrible. I went to see Trans Siberian Orchestra right before Christmas, and while the show was good, the sound distracted from it. I wasn't centered, which did not help but sports venues are quite...

    700 Series II Conversion

One thing I like about the Series II vs my Pro is that you can fit the knobs without the faceplate on. They stay with the sub-panel. The Pro doesn't have that large rectangular cutout so you have to pop the knobs off to do anything inside the amp.
