You guys should try the PAC Chat (NEW!) button (top right), I'm cruisin around in there talking to myself.

I've totally lost the plot....

.... but it then defeats the purpose of having a multiple threaded forum!

Plus I think you'll find some of us could be chatting at up to 1/2 a dozen forums/threads at the same time, and a chat line is too isolated.
.... and I just don't have the time right now to get bogged down with anything else right now.

But vB wasn't built for speed, it was built for quality database failures.:sign1:
Chat has worked perfectly for me since it was restored recently (in there now talking to myself).
Micro$oft's motto should be "we make it look pretty and use as many cpu cycles as possible passing junk code through so our hardware buddies can make big money!" Windows 8 looks like a scrabble tile game and dont get me started on touch screens, i'd rather a keyboard/mouse anyday.

Pioneer CT-F9191

I bought this Pioneer a number of years ago at the Salvation Army. Because it didn't play a tape at the time I tried it out, this one came home for $15. An older gentleman, who was working out of his home after retiring from the store he once worked at, repaired the deck. I am keeping it, as the fellow who repaired it has since passed away. Yah, there are some things we hold onto for a number of different reasons.

Great piano key style deck nando, I have come to appreciate these more with age. Went through the full logic control obsession when I was younger. I shall keep an eye out for more Piano Keyed decks at the thrifts.

Thanks Derek. Who hasn't grown up using one of the old shoe box recorders with the piano keys. My Pioneer CT-F650 with custom wood enclosure:

More eye candy there. My first deck was a Pye Shoebox Recorder with a single speaker, piano key style. I think was only 2 years old, had a knack for music and refused to go to sleep without it. AC/DC or Trex was like a sleeping pill for me.

Derek: Shoe box recorders were best for taping family gatherings, or just for a rainy day when we were younger and wanted to act corny. Mine was a Panasonic.

I remember doing one recording on it with my uncle at age 4. My next was a PYE Ghetto blaster, I played it so much the motor wore out in 1989. It never chewed a tape.

When have you ever heard of someone going to the small trouble to even clean heads, let alone an infrequent demag on a shoe box recorder? it's a wonder they survived as long as they did.

I think my first shoebox was a Panasonic, too.
My first shoebox, had shoes in it..... :confused2:
... but my first tape recorder was one of those mini book recorders. The one that was hidden inside a book.
Little did I know at the time how much tape recorders would feature in my life!
From a teeny toy to pro 48 track recorders eventually. :laughing9:
Still looking for either or both of the Teac 3440 or a Tascam 80-8 for a couple of projects I have.
I have some 4 track and 8 track tapes I need to digitise.

Luckily my mother new how to clean the playback head, but not the pinch roller. We had one of those allsop cleaners though, that worked well. A few tapes got eaten in the old shoebox recorder, but not the pye ghetto blaster. They were very robust and strong back in those days.

Shoebox recorder? My first recorder was a LLoyds shoebox recorder with a leather case. I got it for Christmas in 1967 or maybe 68? Unfortunately I probably chucked it 15 or 20 years ago.

Speaking of demagnetising heads, I would think the girl in your avatar would make a great head demagnetiser.
