trim edges and cut the holes out. Pretty easy.

not too bad from a distance.

Now the question is: shall we clear it as was done originally? (Cleared scrap for reference)

That's nice work. What's the vinyl product being used?

Stuff from Amazon. I think I had shown the label earlier, but I can get it tomorrow.

Looks like what I got, for more money.

I think I paid six bucks for each roll.

The clear replicates what the factory did. If you zoom in you can see old clear on the black grille and also on the original trim I left on the edges of the side boards.

I think I have some semi-gloss I can try tomorrow.

Personally I like it without the clear, I would also be concerned that in time the clear would start to peel. Vinyl will offgas over time, they do make “plastic” spray paint but there are hundreds of vinyl formulations so longevity could still be an issue.

I did the test of the semi-gloss clear last week but I didn’t get it applied.

So, we have semi-gloss:

Or high-gloss:

I’m leaning toward semi-gloss but since it’s not done yet, we can take a vote. Lemme know.

If you look at the second picture, you can still see some of the original clear on the black top vents. It is at least semi-gloss; possibly higher gloss.

I'd say it's between the two options I show. I'll probably just go with the semi-gloss (which I think they call "matte") and be done with it.

Nope- it's called "Satin Crystal Clear" and I have tested it and found it to have very high clarity- many of the clears that are not "high gloss" have some sort of opaque dulling additive. Sprayed onto welding glass, you can see the "whiteness" of the clear. This is actually clear. I got it to take the gloss off a watch dial, without "clouding" the black color of the dial.

I had intended to shoot it before I left but didn’t get to it.

But the Micro is alive again, so only a total refinish of the wood to do and I can start putting it back together.
