New build for shop system

Went to friends shop to work on speakers. This big ugly beast is still here so that 800lb pile of mdf can’t become cabinets till it’s gone... guess I’ll have to settle for a can of speaker lubricant and call it a day.

Someone put p/s fluid in the brake reservoir, every o-ring and caliper cup is toast. The thing is a POS and has that rear steering GM messed with for two years and never got right, the read springs are de-arched so bad they actually arch the wrong way. Someone thought a 3” lift block kit was the fix for that... whole truck is a big mess! He’s putting new brakes on for a the guy and the rest is his problem.

I think I’ll work on the house 3 ways this morning. Install the crossovers and mids/tweets/wiring. The cabinets look ok in the shop but I think I might do some sanding, fill the screw holes and give them a new coat of paint while I’m at it. Debating what to use as filler. Could use wood filler, bondo or even drywall compound. The cabinets are quite rigid so I don’t think vibration will be an issue but I’m open to suggestions.

That's a new one. PS fluid in the brake resivoir? I've been working on cars nearly 40 years and my dad before me, and his dad did refridgeration when that was a black art... (third generation Snap-On tools breaker)

NEVER seen that one before. Bravo America! Yer dumb!

I think glycol would be less of a problem as compared to dead dinosaurs...

But can these people read? Pretty much every car made since the turn of the century has stuff molded right into the cap, what goes in there...

Maybe those drivers should be downgraded to Jiffylube employee?

We used to use bondo on wood repairs that would be painted then they came out with "wood bondo" same stuff with fibers in it. Don't think vibration would be a problem.

I wouldn't use Bondo brand filler, but something from PPG for example would be fine for wood filling, particularly on MDF with random "grain" orientation.

You can also mix up some epoxy and mix some sawdust into it and make a sticky paste. THAT is bomb-proof.

“Every cap has something molded in” I was trying to explain to a friends GF over the phone one time how to add oil to her engine. I said “the cap on top the says OIL”. She says there isn’t one. This goes back and forth a few minutes and she says “the only cap on top says “710”... she really wasn’t good looking enough to be that dumb...

Started sanding a cabinet down, drilled the holes for the mid and tweeter. Picked up a small tub of DAP filler. I’ll give that a shot I guess. There’s not really much to fill, just a few nicks and dents and the screw holes/heads

I pumped unleaded in a diesel Chevette in 1982 but that is dumber than I can dumb.

When we were in North Africa one guy got diesel in his gas land rover twice... They are already slow pigs and then add diesel? Nightmare...

Just thought I'd drop my 2 cents on the ps fluid in the master..... I've been a licenced tech for 25 years, ish....
Seen it many times..... Unless there is a dramatic leak that allows fluid to "travel" Realize the fluid as a whole
essentially moves out to apply and back to release.... Very small amount !
Swap out the master & reservoir, Bench bleed it and install ,bleed the system at the lines that leave the master.... Done deal ....
The contaminated fluid typically doesn't get beyond the master itself.... ;)

Good point M, but it had made its way everywhere... he’s already swapped out the master and all the callipers. ABS probably screwed too. On the automotive topic, I’m sans wheels for a few hours as my ‘67 Biscayne is in getting a new pair of tires and a front end alignment. 14” rubber is hard to find these days. Was special order.

Speaker wise, I’ve got one cabinet ready for paint and wiring. Need a trip to the hardware store though to really proceed. Guess I’ll start gutting the other cabinet while I wait for the car to be finished.

Not sure if I got the Flu Manchu/CoronAIDS or just too much speaker lubricant last night, but I’m pretty tired today!
