I guess I'll have to open Alison and look at the RAM. I did a basic memory test and passed but that means nothing AFAIK.

I took the single 4 GB PC3-10660 out and put two 2 GB PC3-126-- whatever they are, will see it it's more stable or do I go further.

And now I have Firefox as my browser instead of IE on Alison. WORKS. Should have done this a long time ago.

I've been using Firefox for a long time. On win 7pro now. Like it a lot. The add-on extensions can add a lot of nice features. Ones I use you may want to try:
Classic Theme Restorer - can do a lot more than the title implies
Download Manager Tweak
DownThemAll!
FlagFox
FoxClocks

The only plug-in I allow is Shockwave Flash.

Flash used to be called Shockwave Flash or something, the two were related but I am not aware if Shockwave is still available from Adobe...some of this stuff goes back to the Macromedia days. I have a dental appointment and they still have a pre-appointment form that I gather uses Flash, and I seem to recall that it's been there for years and years, and they mention Macromedia Flash...

Macromedia, the creator of Flash, Dreamweaver and others was purchased by Adobe in 2005. If you haven't changed that page in over 12 years...and Flash is GONE by 2020...of course, Adobe was saying this in 2011 but it's a pain still.

You have to give it permission to operate in Firefox! They consider it a security risk!

It really doesn't work well on mobile devices and has more security holes than the Sea Of Holes *Yellow Submarine

It's a lot of how they hack you with that browser lock screen ransomware in Windows! That and javascript. They are going beyond that limitation now but what's left?

Mostly PORNSITES that don't care to fix their sites. What's the point?

I've used computers since 1978, PCs since 1984, Apple clones and a Mac Classic I checked out used for a friend (and it did not impress me at all), HP 3000 mini-mainframe in college and my first taste of internet use in 1995 and my first ISP account in 1997. Been there and done that.

CALLING WEB AND JERRY!

I have had this problem with two computers now, standard and UEFI BIOS.

I set boot order to boot from the DVD drive but the computer tries to start in Windows like there is a GHOST. I even get the splash screen before the BSOD and reboot.

There is NO Windows disk in there and I'm trying to install LINUX. I tried everything I knew how to do with Valerie, pulling the plug, battery and memory and still those four points of light come together for the Windows logo (7)...so where in the HELL is that stupid thing?

It's not just Friday the 13th, I've had that problem for a long time.

I'm working out of BIOS/UEFI...do you want me to uncheck the part about a Plug And Play OS?

I had the Windows drive out completely. Where is the VGA splash screen coming from? if you clear the CMOS and remove the memory simultaneously and I assume a jumperless CMOS or else I pulled that too, do I call Scooby Doo?

Well, Velma IS kinda geek hot.

So your trying to boot from CD drive? In Asus bios they often have one place where you enable the CD drive as bootable and another lower drop down where you set the drive boot sequence. Maybe that is what your looking for.

Considering that it is an HP P7-1111 and the other an MPC ClientPro 365 and IIRC both Intel mobos... I am using an MPC ClientPro 385 with Linux Mint Sonya 18.2 and Firefox 56.0 right now wshich is an Intel board as well. MPC went out of business somewhere between '05 and '08...Intel vPro it says and while it's under 2 GHz that is multicore.

I'd have to restart to look and remember but it works very well.

Core2 Duo 6300 2 cores @ 1.86 GHz

Still a really nice machine for 10 dollars and a another 5 for the second hard drive.

I understand you though. Did that but it doesn't seem to work anyhow. It may hit me someday if I miss anything.

Are you trying to make a dual-boot computer? Win7/Linux? If not format the drive first then install the linux. The linux install disc is obviously picking up the win 7 from the hard drive . Make sure your priority in bios is to boot from thge cd drive also.

NO. I was trying to install a new HDD and Linux, NO dual boot at all.

The problem is that even WITHOUT a Windows drive I get the splash screen and a BSOD when Windows isn't found.

Where is this lurking?

Maybe your finding a copy of windows on a different HDD. Do a F8 when you boot and make sure your booting from the correct drive.

Obviously you computer is finding windows 7 either on the hard drive you are trying to install linux on or on the DVD you are booting from.

Make sure the only hard drive hooked up to your system is the one you intend to install the linux on and make sure it has been formated, or better yet put it in a different computer and delete all the partitions, linux install will create the partitions it needs. Then download the ISO for the linux install and extract it to a bootable DVD. Use the new DVD you just created and you should be fine.

Not sure what flavor of linux you are installing but when you boot from the DVD is should let you know it found a previous windows install and it should give you options to make it dual boot or delete the windows install.

My guess is your system is still booting from the hard drive, either you have not selected boot from the DVD drive or the DVD you put the install on was not make as a bootable disc.
