700B WOPL Audition List

I added the extra pink foam sheet when it left here. You practically have to sit on the case to engage the flight latches. Trust me, I could throw that off my roof unto the driveway and it would just snicker

I hope so, coz that's exactly wot some carriers do, and heaven forbid if u mark it 'FRAGILE'....

How's it goin laz? You liking it more or less. Each day changed for me!!
until I left it on all the time. Then after that it shined the whole time.
and the more I've been listening to the sx-1250 I think the sx-939 has a better overall sound!!! What's your take on that nando?

My father used to work for the Post Office and to them Fragile meant you packed it well so they didn't worry about how they handled the package.

Yep... I use the UPS store alot !!!! They say never mark a package FRAGILE !!!

More. More. MORE!

So far:
It burns ~45 watts at idle (input).
it puts out about 30 watts on peaks at volumes I can tolerate.
I like the way the gain pots ramp up the volume s-l-o-w-l-y, very appreciated at this power level.
This amp is well mannered at power on & off - no snaps or thumps.
I like the way it makes notes sound so much more real than other amps, especially percussion & the initial attack of a drum/percussion note - this amp is articulate, lively, and agile.
The dynamics/dynamics are addictive.
This amp is not well suited for anything but rack mounting.

well said laz. i agree with almost all of that !!!

The rack mounting part.....If Laz likes the dynamics of the quasi, the FC will kick his little patootie...

Laz, the initial edge of a percussion note is very dependent on slew rate or rise time. An amps ability to respond to a note of music , especially a loud percusion note takes a fast rise time and headroom....somethging the WOPL has in spades. When I was in Phoenix at Steve Evans place, after he let the Silver Shadow 400 warm ip he played some drums and percussion stuff that was incredible from a " how the F&^% does that guy do that" perspective. Steve had a shit-eating grin the whole time saying" That's exactly what that sounds like live".. The drummer was amazing and very fast, a lot of atarts and stops, and Steve said that's the first time he heard it reproduced like that, and he has owned a LOT of high dollar amps...that was the 400 I FC'd and WOPL'd to the hilt and built the copper heatsinks for, he also supplied blackgates for the driver board and it was and still is a phenomenal amp.....

The 700 had feet to before the tour began, albeit little ones that could be rubbed off..

That timeline is fine...it's gonna be awhile before I can work on mine..

There's one more thing I meant to say about the WOPL I'm listening to: I noted the 16-gauge lampcord on this (almost) 500-watt amp, and quickly decided NOT to obsess about power cables anymore. There - I said it.
