Nope - no stress here with the transistor held in place with a fastener and the wires secured by either a zip tie or lacing tape on the other end. We've flown stuff with similar splices - there are Mil-Spec'd splices designed with a similar method of soldering two conductors together. I'll see if I can find something to show the methodology of this type of splice. We have shit going the speed of heat with these.
 
I remember you sending me that link Lee. They DO look pretty good. Luckily I have knobs for the 700B's that look alright. The one Jerry has is probably the worst looking ones, and even then, they are not that bad. A few scratches in the plastic by the previous owner.

Yeah I have wondered myself too what a bottom meter swinging 700 would look like? I was leaning that way once, when I had the PL400 and 700B bi-amped together. I wanted matching meters and preferred the arc style VU scale-from the bottom meter swing, over the flat bar VU scale-from the top meter swing. But unless there is a way to correct the windings or whatever it is, inside the meter itself, then the meter is shot. Just got overstressed from the last owner "pegging" the outputs with the -20db switch set to be sensitive or blew a channel out? Who knows.....

I know - but I do have the avatar as redemption. Sometimes I actually say something audio related in these threads - not often but on occasion I do slip.
 
So tonight was able to put in the bias brackets with smaller awg wire (good tip Nav.. thanks man). Triple checked and corrected a few things here and there, and got it back up in listening mode again. Sounding good. Natural and clear .... big :thumbright:

You know guys... I recall reading something about these amps to where they sound better and better, the longer they're warmed up and burned in... seems a bit of truth in that..
 
When you heat shrink it, the solder ring in the middle reflows and makes a solder connection.

It's a solder connection commonly used in the avionics field. My preference is to tin the leads first even with small gauge wire.

The middle ring is solder that melts when subjected to a heat gun. The outside rings are a material that melts at a similar temperature as the solder when heated - this effectively seals the connection - the submersible version being the better of the three (for maximum protection of the joint) shown in the enclosed pdf. The other two versions are not submersible but do provide a decent environmental seal for "normal" use. These are used in many other fields and there are many different types of solder sleeves in use today. I like to keep a few on hand.

Jer; I saw your picture of the WOAPL 700B sitting on top of your PL700. Did you do a comparo test between the two? And if so, what were your findings if any? Let's hear it. The good, the bad and the ugly? :-) I assume your 700 series I has been WOA'd??
