Wow, on the Pioneer CT-F900s. Are all of them working? I had interest in a particular CT-F900 which had the uncommon black fascia surrounding the tape operation control buttons. Good to have you aboard!

Nando.
Hey Nando. Thanks for the warm welcome! More than a few familiar names there as I have been over at TH for a bit.

One is up and running at present but could use a take up motor rebuild. Two power up and are about to get transport/ motor rebuilds. Number four will hopefully arrive this Monday or Tuesday. This one has the black control button plate. I am told it too powers up but I am sure this one will need the same tlc as the others.

Nice to see they are not going to languish on a bench, but be repaired. Do you intend to keep them all? I have a few CT-F series decks, too.

Not a fan of the gaint paperweight myself. The goal is to get them all running 100%, keep 2 in the system, 1 on reserve and probably give one away to a friend. Then I will start trying to grab a few 950/ 1000/ 1250s and possibly a Nak RX 505 or three.

At that point, space constraints will compel me to sell a few. I am sure you know how that song and dance goes.

Nick: If you find a worthy Pioneer CT-F1000, you may be astonished to hear how it performs. I know the specs don't support this deck as being more than an a slightly above-average deck, but the recordings and playback prove otherwise. I used to be a spec-junkie, and it's hard not to base-line your choices supported by specs.

And the Nakamichi line-up is something I would invest in down the road. I do a lot of cassette recording, so I could justify having a premium model Nakamichi.

Damn dude - you have an arse tonne of decks. I've listened to a couple of them a number of years ago - nice stuff. You're not crazy - you didn't drop your drawers so don't be em-barr-assed

BTW - BD would be proud of my metric semantics.:laughing9:

Currently a Teac 3440, a Tascam 38, and a Revox PR99 for reels; a Marantz PMD-430 for a cassette deck. I also have access to a Tascam 302 dual well cassette deck and a Tascam DA-40 from work I needed.

On campus, there's a Studer A-80 2-inch 24 track machine as well as an Otari MTR-90 2- inch 24 track machine I'm trying to get resurrected.

Thanks. one of these days i will prune this thread and put the avatars in the avie thread and leave the tape decks discussions here. Most of us are guilty of thread crapping from time to time though. :toothy10:

Ok, anyone looking for the Devin furs will find them in the cave in the Navlinear Avie thread. It isn't often we move things around here, but those interesting tape decks minght not want to weed though the avatars beautiful as they are.

I have had this Sony EL-7 Elcaset deck for a few years. I have, maybe, a dozen blank Elcasets to record to, including about a half dozen of tapes which have already been recorded on. I don't use it much, but a month, or so ago, Jeff (Pacific Stereo at TH) had been looking for someone to record a series of test tones so he could calibrate his own EL-7, he is rebuilding. I did record the test tones and added a couple of songs to fill Side A of the tape. I remember recording the Tragically Hip and the Dave Matthews Band for him to enjoy. If anyone else has experienced what an EL-7, or similar Elcaset deck is capable of, there isn't a cassette deck recording, I've heard so far in all my tape exchanges, that could match it for sonic excellence.

Nando those silver Pioneers are really making me drool. I have a Nak BX300 and Denon DN790R here that Perry did up for me a month back and it sounds glorious (shoutout to Perry.. hell of a tape tech :thumbright:), but it's just the look of the old school there.. wow.

Jerry: It was your Nakamichi LX-5 which you used for the Traveling Guitar Tapes? What sort of work did Perry have to do with both your Denon and Nakamichi decks? There's nothing sweeter than having a deck just out of the shop and just simply enjoying it. More than two years has passed since I last used my Pioneer CT-F1250 for recording mix tapes. But before then, I did a whole lot of recording with it.

I want to know if the Sony and Pioneer Silver faced gear duke it out after you shut the lights off? :cyclopsani:
John: Surprisingly, the Pioneers and Sonys are quite compatible.

I don't recall seeing any Sony equipment in your man cave, Lee. Did you ever try any Sony equipment worthy of being next to the silver Pioneer?

I got a Sony Betamax machine. It came with a bunch of dirty movies.
