Hello Sam, thanks, it always seems to happen at the beginning of the tape play or record, so that makes some sense about the torque issue. It's really a great deck, and way too nice for a door stop. I paid $350 for it 3 years ago, I think it retailed for $1,850 in 1989, it's worth fixing, I'm not rich but can eat some beans for awhile to save up gettin' her fixed :fart:, I may be moving somewhere unknown soon, the person I bought it from in CO, made an excellent spray foam container for shipping it, so it'll be well taken care of shipping wise, I'm thinking around tax refund time in March, I have your info and will stay in touch. Maybe I'll come up ta Chi-Town and watch 'Da Bears get their ass whipped by my Cowboys

OK, As to the Bears, I have little involvement with sports so that when a team either wins or looses I have little reaction.
I did have Thanksgiving lunch at Ditkas and it was great. This guy knows how to organize a restaurant. I heard he had a stroke not too long ago.
My wife laughs at me as I worked for ESPN (AM1000), Sporting News and have even done remotes at then Sox Park and
Wrigley Field. At ESPN I was in the elevator with Bill Wenington but knowing what I do about sports it was no big deal.
I worked with Chet Coppock and Mark Giangreco on a daily basis and Now another person I have worked with Lou Canellis is on TV but then so is Peggy Kusinski. I am more famous myself for my tape deck repairs.

Depending on the size and motor type as I posted on a TH forum, I have found a replacement motor called the
EG5302D-2B that can replace most belt drive single speed decks motor directly. I have already used them in Onkyo, Denon
and a Teac unit with great success. These are for 12 Vdc supply and are CCW drive. Just so those that have decks with bad motors know about this. They are 2400 RPM and 33mm size.

Onkyo TA-2050, Jer can I have it sent it to you for a lookover on the board for those direct drive hub motors? They can't both have gone south at the same time and the capstan is okay. My friend will send it if you like.

I would like to have the sm for the 550. Havent looked for it yet. Did you get it off HIFI engine? I really like the Akaii 8 track. As a matter of fact, i enjoy my Beatles SPLHCB through it more than vinyl or rtr. Weird huh? Just seems to have better separation and sound stage.

I may have even found it on elektrotanya.com and if you answer the 5 electronics questions in their test you can alternately register and get up to 30 (I think) files per day instead of just two for guests. hifiengine.com, their sister vinylengine (you can register with the same ID if you like or at least I did) and ET are a goldmine plus you can request file on all three and provide them (if JaS has solved the backlog on the 'engines). There are other places for 'free' files but you run the risk of them being screwy and then wanting stuff you don't want to give or just being expensive or not very good.

Too many...

Nakamichi CR-1A: Cost me $5.00. Needs a new reel motor and probably a new pinch roller. Not currently used.
Nakamichi RX-202: Cost me $15.00. Nothing wrong with it (at the moment). My main deck.
Sony TC-KE500S: Cost me $5.00. Nothing wrong with it. My auxiliary deck.
JVC KD-D50: Cost me $15.00. Records too fast, and may have a channel out. Do a Google image search for "jvc kd-d50", and my deck is the first picture there. Not currently used.
Yamaha KX-500U: Cost me $3.00. Needs a new pinch roller so it stops eating tapes. Not currently used.

As for R2R, my only deck is a lowly Akai 1730-SS. It's set up in my bedroom, and actually belongs to me dad.

OK, so why is my post that has nothing to do with tape speed in the tape speed thread then?
Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't move it post by post and I missed your post in the collateral damage. I simply moved where the thread went a different direction. I now went back and moved your individual post. Whoops:rabbit:
