Laz currently has a Denon DRM-510 cassette deck. It's single-well, 2 motors, good sound. It's all I need, since I no longer tape for my car stereo. I only bought my first deck, a TEAC A-150, to make tapes to play on my Pioneer KP-500. I still have the KP-500 - though the tape mech is shot, the tuner is still great.

Let me see if I can recall them from memory:

RTR:
Pioneer RT909
Pioneer RT701
Teac A7300
Teac TCA43 - apart on bench

Cassette:
Tascam 112B
Yamaha 1020
Nak CR3
Nak 125
HK 191 - thinks is a tube device in that it needs to warm up before working.
Teac C3X

Thanks,
Robert

R2R:
- Akai X-200D (works, needs bias adjusted and could use internal cleaning... will sell eventually)
- Tandberg 9200XD (at shop, almost repaired, but need reel spindle lock which appears to be unobtanium, can't wait to hear it)
- Sony TC-765 (recent pawn shop purchase, transport works but my tapes are in a box somewhere in garage, need to find to confirm that it makes sound)

Cassette Decks:
- Nak RX-505 (works)
- Nak RX-303 (at repair)
- Nak RX-202 (works)
- Nak BX-300 (works)
- Nak 582 (great pb deck, but needs orange caps replaced)
- Nak 480 Silver (PB only deck, doesn't record)
- Nak 480 Black (parts deck)
- Akai CS-F39R (needs belts and basic svc)

Oh, and I also have around 30 or so Vintage Boomboxes, including the Holy Grail JVC M90, M70, M60, Aiwa TPR-950, Sanyo M9998 and a bunch of nice Sharps :)

I think there's one on our local CL but they want $500 for it restored. PHOOEY.

My wife would check me in to the 4th floor if I had that many.

I haven't pickup an new ones, except for a few from Larry last year. I need to get rid of some true, but that takes times, something I don't have enough of.

Yep, the Pioneer works, but the Nak is a little sleepy. It gets better the longer you use it.

You could always hide gear from your wife in the garage or shop couldn't you?

I will be buying a Sanyo M9860 with the new year! My Pioneer SK-350 needs help and my Sony c.1980-81 is in pieces. I have a long skinny GE AM/FM stereo dual cassette, probably made by Sanyo.

I had a yellow Sony Sports model but it fell from my bike and broke apart. I have a Quasar with everything that has a speaker that cuts out.

I have a Fostex X-18 multitracker as well!

I have a few cassette decks in my present upstairs system. Currently, I have three connected to my dbx 400X Route Selector. They are: Pioneer CT-F1000, Pioneer CT-F1250, and an Esoteric V-9000. The Esoteric V-9000 has seen a little more use than my other two decks just recently, because I've been recording with Dolby C and HX Pro, which the two Pioneer decks don't feature. I have many other cassette decks, but these three have seen the most use in recording and playback these past couple of years.

Nando.
I can't fathom nor believe how much those n00bs at that other site we're at think HX Pro is like smallpox or something, all the poking about and misinformation about drives me nuts when they chatter on!

I'm getting a Pioneer CT-40 soon!

Steven: I don't get involved with the back-and-forth in many of those types of conversations. I just gladly lay down more tracks using Dolby C and HX Pro for a mix tape to another grateful member. Just completed another one, today.

A Pioneer CT-40... that's not too common.

Nando.

I have an SX-50 to repair as well and apparently missed one of Pioneer's earliest CD players (silver with gold trim) while I was at it on eBay.

I made the first purchases on eBay since the PayPal thing years ago today...2 LPs from a seller I had done a lot of business with in the past and he guided me through it!

I'm going to miss Alice Cooper in Boise this week, but I have Alice Cooper Goes To Hell now! I also got Pink Floyd's A Collection Of Fine Dance Songs but missed out on Eagles Live.

I gave that many gut most are out of service...

I forgot GM-Delco UX1 AM Stereo/FM stereo-cassette with 5 band EQ and Chrome X2

At least one Chrysler and I think a Ford OEM unit.

And last but never least, an NOS Pioneer UKP-7600 Supertuner II cassette and TS-1044K 4" two-way speakers, also NOS.

I have many of them here too but some may need work which is why I have them.
Mostly Teac, Tascam, some Pioneer CT-F900-1000 and a Nakamichi MR-1, 2.
I think about 50 cassette decks are here as well as some Z6000, few C-1, 8 X C-3RX and 9 V900X units.
A510 MkII, A550RX, Z5000, V-1RX, V-2RX, V-4RX, V909RX, probably a lot more.

Hello Sam, any idea what the heck could make my V-8000S be a tape muncher? It seems to crinckle/fold the tape in a very strange way, I can post pics of the damage later, I know it's a rare machine and I'm sure I asked you this before, I have superb packing for it after the holidays of course...

Hi Craig,

It all depends on where the scrunching occurs, Most of the time it will happen at the capstan shaft due mostly because of a lack of takeup torque. This can happen due to a bad Idler tire or a dead spot in the motor or even lack of reel motor drive.
The observation of the decks problem can tell you where the problem is and the use of the MTT160 torque cassette gauge is another way to find out how much torque is developed. I don't think I have ever seen one of these decks so I would have to observe the problem myself to be sure.
