Doing WY/SD this week......MN next.....may have to slip over to IL and check those out.
Lemme know if you head to northern IL. The 801's have been on CL for awhile but he only started bring the price down last week. They're only a couple miles from my house.

You're more than welcome to stop in for a listen here. The 808's are basically 2 801's in one box.

The woofers are 15 3/4" in diameter. Found them in a local flea market for $50 each. Here are a few more pictures:

Sold the speakers, but kept the wife. One of life's hard choices.

Love them Nando, those super tweeters are so freaking fragile but they sound uniquely sweet. I never owned a pair but my friend did running with a big old Pioneer receiver, I believe a 1280

WOW! Thank's for the link! Looks like about three hours away. I had no idea those kits were available. I'm going to have a blast reading every word on his site.

CornScala "A" models from Bob Crites. Bought as a kit and built them in the garage. These WILL split your wig and leave you going Huh????

106db in sensativity, huge.

I experimented and veneered them in rosewood.

When ya get done with that, try this.....http://www.alkeng.com/
OHHHH Maaaaan.............free porn! Anybody doing Bozaks?
I've spent a few years gathering more than enough minty drivers to build a pair of Concert Grands. But I think they will be more suited to my Dynaco tube projects.
I'm beginning to re jigger my 30 x 40 shop into a speaker & electronics lab instead of all guns & cars. It will take some time but I'm driven.

Unfortunately all my pic of the old '59 Pilot console 1090A are on another computer and back up disk I can't find, there might be pics in the tube forum, anyway, she had 15" Jensen 'Special Edition's with magnets so powerful they pulled my cock ring off  every time I got behind her!!

I cry every time I think about having to sell her, the buyer most likely parted her out. The Sa232 el34 tube amp was worth $500 back then, yada, yada, water under the bridge

The Summits have two 10" aluminum cones driven by their own 200w d-amp each, I won't start a bass war with anyone but, I will say that they are accurate in what they put out. I have to have them far away from any sidewalls and back walls, parametric bass controls on the back balance and boost. When a mallet slams a big tom, you hear the exact wack and vibe, it might not be gut renching but it's accurate to the source.

Now I will never ever believe that any driver in a box speaker, horn, dome, inverted dome, flat-paper, hyper-extended whatsit will ever get you closer to the music as an electrostat, ribbon or planar in the mid to highs!! Pick your poison :evil5:, what do you want? What will you give up for it?? I've sold me soul many years ago, and I'm 'APPY!!

Stuwee......ever get a chance to listen to anything with a pair of RAAL's in them? I have a good friend that built a pair of speakers with 9" drivers covering up to 800hz and then the magic happened........those RAAL'S took over and created one of the most detailed....lush....believable stages I have had the pleasure of listening to. He has since moved to Chicago.......dammit!!! But bottom line......I was sold the day he fired them up!!!!

Ron: An extract from an article I wrote back in 2010:

To recount one of my Pioneer Best Buys:

It was perhaps three years ago, and I had just entered the Squamish Mini-Flea Market on my weekly forage. Upon walking through the front door, I saw a large wooden cabinet, with its side facing the entrance. "Nice cabinet", I thought, "Should be able to hold more than a few records. It even has a glass top." And as I walked closer, I realized there were two of the same cabinets. Bob, the store owner's son, was muscling them into a better position, so they wouldn't block the narrow aisle. " Hey, how's it going. They just came in. I knew you'd be interested in these. Too bad, though, I hooked them up and the lights, up top, don't work. Maybe, you could figure it out." Holy Mother, what have we got here? Popping off the grilles, I could barely contain myself. " Bob, it looks like the bigger speakers are deteriorated. How much?" "Well, I can't let you steal them and there is a place in town, you can use to replace those speakers. $50 each." I replied, " Bob, you drive a hard bargain. Just give me a hand getting them into the back of the Wagon, OK?" Well, Bob gave me a large, smoke-stained, toothy grin and said, " Deal!" So, after replacing the surrounds on both of the 15 3/4" woofers I now have a treasured pair of Pioneer HPM-150s!

Hello all, its been awhile since I dropped in. Hope everyone is well .
A bunch of great speakers have been mentioned here on this thread for sure, but I gotta add another.
The Altec Model !9. One of the greatest Rock speakers of all time.
I'm a old Altec fan from way back and have a few pieces in my years of collecting.

So I ran across this on Ebay while looking for some pieces.
If I was close these would probably be on the way home.

The Speaker Lab Design is what Lee started with if I remember ? Just may have a WAF problem for some ?

cheers,
mike
