Ah......maybe a valid concern as a few have gone up in smoke.......on purpose ....some not.

It's always been an assembly issue not a design issue. Joe is impeccable ( there's that word again) in his design applicatipns. Sometimes I have screwed up the implementation of his designs....

From what I see, the complexity of these units is just incredible, the amount of wires, components, connectors etc. It would be very easy for a mistake to be made. Human Nature.

My main weakness with re-assembling tape decks would be leaving the counter belt off, I did this 5 TIMES! and had to pull the whole mech out of most of them to put it back on.

With the nakamichi 480 I blew the crap out of the recording section when trying to replace faulty components on the board (my soldering sucks), it literally smoked. I'm thankful its still a great playback only deck :confused1:

If I let the voice coils cool between songs when doing Mach 9 it's all good. I have yet to simply overpower one. It's a heat and melt thing..

How long do they take to cool, and can you smell anything when they heat up? Also how many db is mach 9?

I don't know why. Suggested fuse size is 1.5 ...I have blown enough 5 ampers that I have finally bypassed them.
