Przem's Phase Linear 700 Series II White Oak Conversion

The D-23 is a 4 way and I have lots of Amps. I like the idea of a 400 on the mids and tweets together. And that would remove 90% of the power going to the passives.

u must physically disconnect the woofers from the passive x-o's in the boxes, and feed them independently from a separate bandpassed stereo power amp.
(read Dave's posts #329 and #330 again.)
if u can stop the bass from going into your boxes passive x-o's, (which u'll still need if u have a 3-way so has to split the remaining mids from the highs), then u will decrease the amount of power running thru the x-o's drastically, which saves 'em from burning out.

So basically your saying to also drill another set of speaker posts in the cabs BD? Do you just tape off and isolate the connections for the woofers? I wondered about biamping since Lee mentioned it awhile back. Seems like the amps would run easier and I like the idea of lessening the chance of frying something inside the speakers besides the drivers. Would you need two preamps also to attenuate volume, it would be cool for flexibility. Like boost on demand LOL

The electronic crossovers have gain controls. One input and 4 outputs...

Initially, I'd just run the wiring out through the port. That way u don't have to tamper with the box, until ur absolutely sure it works for u.
... and yes, just tape off the flying woofer leads off the x-o for now.
Eventually, once you've got the hang of things, u can make slight mods, like adding an extra pair of terminals, and a switch (heavy duty) to select between active and passive, 'cause sometimes, u can be quite happy with low level listening, and therefore not necessarily have two amps etc running.
... and as Lee said, (usually) the active x-o has all the gain controls u need, as his obviously does.
Also, a point to be made, is that using passive x-o's for the mid/highs, can be a good thing, IF by some remote chance that things may go wrong, and if an amp should ever go DC, (yes Lee, I know how protected WOPL's are) but, again, IF, something should go wrong, the caps in your passive x-o's may just save ur tweeters from frying.

Anyway, now you'll have extra stuff to mess with, so u CAN have ur cake AND eat it too! ;)

*Wot? A Facebook 'Like' button at the top of the page???? I just gotta click THAT.... LoL ;)

Guys, we will be getting back on this project tomorrow. I have received a new power switch and new meter range switch from Ed Blackwood. Ed decided that Przem's amp deserved both new switches beins it would probably never be this close again. Ed , on behalf of Przem and I ...Thank You very much, you are a kind and generous man... and it appears this switch is much more robust than the original...at least from the tabs anyway. This switch will also have the contacts paralled as per Ed's suggestion also...

If ur a bit short, we'll take up a collection....
I would've preferred a good spanking myself!

You must have missed Lee's first post - he has since reworded what happened. I think he was caught at a weak moment so I (we) went for it - I couldn't help myself. :happy7:  Something about smacking a pee-pee. :glasses8:

"Bailiff, smack his pee-pee" I believe is how it went...

Well you can smash mine with a brick for wot it's worth.
.... although, come to think of it, I did let mine out of it's a cage just over a week ago, but only for a moment, but that's all it took. :evil4:
She was a 'nice' girl.... but that was then, and this is now.
I wish I could remember her name!

.. believe me when I say, 'wots-her-name' suk'd big time D. :male:
'nuff said, b4 I put this place in the cave, and then I'll b doubly sorry for AGAIN being OT, and talkin' dirty at the same time.
(OK, I'm not sorry about being OT, 'cause Lee told me I'm not allowed to be sorry anymore. :evil4: )

Well - bait placed but not taken. Nice job G. We're already in the cave just because of who we are. No sense in pushing it again - 'cause we know what will happen. It's great to hear you're having a bit of fun as I'm sure you poked fun at her.

A 70.00 dollar fine a nd a slap on the hands...

Really good news Lee, was a bit worried there. I'm still here and alive, just in another world at the moment. Not a bad thing either as its helping me wake up and go to sleep at a reasonable hour.

Agreed that all went well for Lee as the fine was low and a smacked pee pee might not be all that bad. :fucyc:

What world are you in D2? I'm glad to hear that it's a good one! :toothy7:

All's good down under (sometimes), hey D2? :happy7:

Its top secret however its keeping my mind very occupied. Need 48 hours to a day, never enough time. Life is good in oz when you can keep your mind occupied, and mine is so occupied that I don't have time to sleep more than 6-7 hours a day. Get very tired but then get distracted and forget all about the fatigue, so I guess that is good for a routine.

Got some new shelving for the vinyl, had to modify it and add shelves, now the entire 900 of them are out of boxes. Also got some nice draws so the place is just that bit more organised now.

Still on the job hunt, going door knocking on monday.

Right now am devouring a steak which was almost too large to fit in the fry pan, yum yum yum.

Was out loading tubing till 10 last night. Gotta haul it to the rig now.... man is it busy this week..
