The hardest part would be the transport. I like the Yamaha K-1000. DD,dual capstan. Nice transport. What is a killer is finding heads. Another guy was doing the circuity. He fell of the face of the earth. But to get a working model going it has to be in CAD.

There is more to this. We had it pretty well thought out.

Robert: A pair of custom Teac reels, you say! By jove, you've got it, man. With your machining skills, you would have many of us envious of your custom work. Just imagine the possibilities: you could cut out the script Teac on the flange much like Akai did with its stock take-up reels. You could powder-coat the reels to match the colour of the Teac R2R faceplate, once your machining is completed. I don't have to tell you that a pair of used, but excellent condition Teac 10.5" take-up reels can cost as much as you paid for your deck.

Now, a blown fuse in the Sansui QRX-7500 would be too easy. Is the original a fast-blow (stuwee, avert your eyes)?

Once you do borrow FF's tape, let us know your impressions of R2R. Maybe, you should look at the OM for the Teac A-7300 to see what type of reel tape was customarily used for it, then pick an identical brand of tape, so you don't have a mismatch in biasing and eq on playback.

Nando.

I can set you up with a program to do audio face plates. If you want. There was a time in my mind to build a tubed cassette deck. It is still on my mind. Everything has to be drawn. IE cad.
I have no money but I can compensate with toys. LOL

Larry
Hi Larry,

I would be interested in knowing more.....

Ha, I am in the process of converting $'s into toys so when the country goes bust due to the donkey in-charge I'll have something to do..... Better to have toys than worthless money.

Robert

Amen ROBERT!!!! Was thinking that myself the other day, better to have stuff than a wallet full of toilet paper!!!!

See that isn't going to be fun either because it has never been done. The 1st one would be playback only. We would want trim and azimuth adjustments. And a few other trick things. LOL To do the CAD of the transport you would need a transport to tear apart and measure everything. I have the faceplate in my mind though.

Hi Guys,

Well, brother has a lawn tractor to mow the grass so back to the projects.....

The Sansui just needs the cabinet refinished and I am calling it done. Found some fuses at Radio Crap (can't believe they actually had something useful), set the bias, and a few other things, cleaned the controls, and removed dirt, dust and goo. It sounds good through some junk PC speakers, need to give it a real test soon.

Just when I thought I was getting caught up on things Brother brings me a Pioneer turntable that I bought back in college days. Guess he had been moving it around the country for the past 20 years and decided it needed a new home, mine!!! Yippie, good choice! Don't remember the model PL-518 or something like that, it has an Empire needle. Looks to be in not to bad of shape considering what it has been through. Pictures coming later.

Hey Nando, that is what I was thinking on the reels..... Is power-coat better than anodize for reels?

I am excited to get the TEAC spinning..... That sure is nice of FF to find me a tape and reel to mess with.

So you guys want to build a cassette deck..... interesting... FYI, spinning proto boards is not that difficult these days. I can get you some links to places that even have software to lay out the design.

Coffee time,

Robert

hat's what we have Joe for, although he may be covered up for the foreseeable future, redesigning a toroid to fit in the x-amps along with a new power supply board, getting the kinks out of the LaatschFet 500 mono... etc.....

Now that said, layed out any boards???

PS, Robert, sorry about your thread, but, ya know how it goes around here. especially with Stu out to keep us on the up and up!

I'm just thinking here. With the simplicity of this deck I think we could do point to point wiring. No never mind. The face plate and the transport would need a board. We were going pretty good till Biffs wife got prego. That sorta put a kink in the plans. LOL

Hi Lee, About 10 years ago was the last time I did board layout stuff...... I was about do one a few months back but I left the startup company as it was going nowhere.

No problem on the thread....... Heck, maybe we should just have one thread and talk about everything. It would be easier than trying to find which one we are going to hijack next. :D What's funny are the for sale threads with like 200 responses. It's Stu's fault being he is not here to defend himself. Maybe I should be president being I can blame other too... Where were we????
:?
