Listening to some tunes while the AP warms up....


The DC protect worked as advertised last night. Pretty close to full tilt boogie we lost B- voltage, that means B+ going to the speaker posts, about a quater second squeal out of the horns then silence. None the worse for wear!
 
Reset the bias, Got DMT on the CD player, time to ctank the fans and see what this Pig is madeof. He's started that snickering again, Mach 8..

Glad to know the relay worked. Did you have to change clothes when the fuse holder let go?

Please check the contacts on the relay. When interrupting the DC there was likely some arcing. Replace the relay if there is any question.
 
I was watching the relay when it went. It did arc but still sounds good Don. The fuseholder was an intermittent. I had forced AGC"s in it years ago and it's too stretched for AGX"s any more.

I'd be willing to bet this is the issue with Blackie

You kept on trucking though Lee after fuse replacement. The pico is to save Q5 and Q7 and seems to be helping to do that. In the original PL config, the amp would have just gone to destruction occurred in both these devices.
 
Yep, that's why I go straight to em when i see + voltage on the outputs. I didn't have to change out either Q7, they tested fine out of circuit, just makin sure. No diode destruction this time either......
 
Just finished the test tunes, I'm tellin ya guys. The Pl platorm is something special now. Joe, Don, Jer, and the rest of us crazy mo-fo's whio build these critters, they are something to be very proud of !!

Was AP testing the Pig , max output test somewhere north of 300 per the B- minus fuse went, taking the pico fuse, Q7R and Q7L. Fixing it now.

What size B- fuse Lee? 5A?

I am moving the pico fuses down in size from 1A to 0.5A or 0.75A. The 1A is marginal to save the Q7 location after the main B- fuse blows.
 
Yea, it wouldn't have blown them had I not immediately cycled the power cord. I believe that's when Q7R/L went. The 47uf/100volt cap also vented. I had things pretty warm Joe. Yes on the 5 amp fuse.

Hell, I am running 8's in mine, surprised I have not blown anything up yet, Jer builds an amp that can take some serious abuse indeed LOL

I remember blowing 5's left and right daily he suggested the 8s

Lee, what do you mean by cycling the power cord? I want to make sure I avoid doing that by accident
