I have some serial number range info related to what boards were in what serial numbers but not whether there is any significance to the serial numbering scheme that they used.

Hello, The reason I was wondering about serial #'s is I am making new face plates and was wondering if all 400's have the same holes and meter locations? Are they are all 7x19 and the same size meters. I have a laboratory standard amplifier and 400 watts RMS face plate and they both have the same.

Yep same dimensions on the 400's trill ya get to the Series II's. The 700B faceplate is the same dimensions as the 400, I'll link my post where I compared em.

I always thought the "Lab Standard " was just too cool, I mean Jeewz, A lab standard?? Not that i had a clue what you would need 400 watts for in a lab, perhaps the old men in smocks really rocked!!

Slinging solder tonight. White Oak board is about half done, seeing double. I think I need glasses. Joe did a fantastic job on his design and the quality is second to none. Time for a little Jaeger and a Blue Moon. Hopefully will get the face plates in the CNC tomorrow.

That's spooky, I just put a Joe board in my holder for Sutton's 2nd 700, and yes I agree Joe's board is first class stuff.

Mark, you are going to have to send us a map that points out the units in your avitar, or better yet, a big picture.

How are you adding the lettering? Will it be a silk screen or paint and a stencil? I'm thinking "Ball Crushing Loud Amplifier" might be better than "Laboratory Standard". Or we could give credit to the guy who started all this and make up some "White Oak Audio Design Standard Amplifier". Thoughts?

The guy who is going to do the silk screen is a drag racing friend of mine. He can put anything we want on them. "SUPER PHASE 450". I was going to make most of them the lab to sell on e-bay and the rest whatever we want. once he makes the screen he will keep them for me. The plates are precision cut +/- .005 7x19 and these will be machined to the thousandth. I am waiting for my aluminum supplier to get me a price on the black brushed plates.

Mark, now that you brought it up we need a little better description of your speaker situation. I'm a JBL guy and Lee is partial to Klipsch. It appears you round out the team by a leaning toward Altec, the cousin of JBL.

My Altecs are tri-amped, the 416's are in a homemade 828 cabinet that I made out of 1 inch Finnish Birch and the mids are 311 horns and the highs are dampened 811 horns. I use my Phase to drive the Subs. I use an Ashly 4 way electronic crossover. The hardest part was to get everything in acoustic phase because of the driver alignment. The tube amps are homemade and basically Grommes 260's. My preamp is a Van Alstine.

Just got a call from my kid, Campus police were called to the frat house, music was way too loud. Only took a week. His buddies think the 400 is really neat with the meters bouncing to +3
