I have a Pioneer PL550 extra to sell. Needs a dustcover. Sometimes the motor starts right up, other times it needs just a light touch to get it running. Tracks speed true. Strobe light out but I use the quartz lock anyway so it's not an issue. Killer tonearm on these things. I just got another one so I had planned on reveneering to something wicked cool looking like tigerwood, having the strobe light fixed and motor tuned up/whatever cap needs to be replaced for the startup trigger with a new dustcover but I will never get around to it

What you got another 550 Ron? When did u get that?
Yeah, I got it a few months ago from an AK dude, it did not come with a dustcover or headshell so I am using the ones off the other. The table works great, I would not offer it otherwise. Just the minor issues noted. $100 + shipping

I'll try to get a few snaps posted today for you Jason. Right now I am using it in the garage setup with no issues. Only thing I would probably recommend replacing is the original Pioneer phono cables at some point and the tone arm rest to a correct one which I had to use on the newer table. No biggie, can probably grab one for under $5 off AK or here

I would check your grounds... also maybe a bad IC connection between the components
Checked all that. It's weird. With the vol all the way down and it set to tuner. I can hear the tuner very low even if I turn vol up. Then if I switch pre to aux it stops and when I switch it back to tuner I can hear and use vol normal. But 50% of the time I'm gettin the woofer thump.

Sounds like an issue with the preamp then Jason (IMO), Jessica should be fine

I pm'ed joe and asked him to look this over for me also. It is prob pre but I don't want to hurt anything so I better leave it off for now. Hey Steven time to bust out the 1250 for a pre lol!!! Lee has the 3800 to fix of mine but I got a feeling it's gonna be a bit on that!!

Does your 3800 have issues or is it in for a regular updating/cleaning? I was waiting to see the numbers off the AP after yours was worked on, to send mine in.
I'm sitting on another one deciding if I'll buy it to replace the cosmetically challenged face plate on the 3800 I have now.

The 3600 is what I currently use. The 3800 I just got and it has problems that's why I sent it to lee. The 3600 lee just completely redid. I can't wait to compare the phono stages on the 2

Hey Jason.
Can we bypass the preamp? Do you have a cd player with volume controls? If you do run it straight into Jessica .
Or if you still have the gain controls on Jessica you can use those as volume and the cd don't need um.

Or you could use the pre outs on the 1250 you have and run them into Jessica.

Well here's the latest. Thinking pre.
I had the pre off an the tuner off. My dac runs through the aux of pre. So I hooked up my computer to dac and turned on a song. With the dac on and pre off I was still hearing the music through my speakers. I turned on the pre and it stayed at the same volume till I moved the selector to phono. But as soon as I go back to aux you hear a faint pop and it's all fine again. Like the pre isn't amping the sound or some shit.

Yep, sounds like its in the preamp.
You could also but Bertha in line instead of Jessica. If its still there, you know its the preamp.
That is as long as Jessica doesn't get jealous:cwm21:

It's Thursday so dance school day... But I just shut the pre off first and sure enough still low volume music. Change to tuner on pre no sound but switch it back to aux and low volume music again. So somehow it's getting through.... Bertha is at lees inline for a makeover...

Hi Jason
I agree this appears like a preamp problem. That is what I would be troubleshooting. Sounds like it is a PL 3600 you are using if I read your thread correctly. It is nice to have a passive preamp around to test with when you are chasing issues like this.

I agree with the recommendation to eliminate the pre if you have input sources with attenuation controls on their respective output levels. Sometimes you do not have that luxury at your disposal though.
