Its the only way to fully repair any rig IMO. Anti virus and malware shit just hogs down your rig. A clean install is much less hassle and likely less time consuming haha.

Me and Web and Jer have something to say about that but I bet we'll defer.
 
I try to do it as little as possible, but when shit gets harry, you know its time. IMO.... no better fix. Very easy to do if you run multiple internal HD's as well. Once youve done it enough, it can sometimes be quicker than downloading and trying to install an app on an infected pc.

It usually is more to do with the browser anyway. I get so many used computers and until now haven't seen a copy of XP around here and I run 'em till the wheel covers won't stay on and strip drives, RAM, processors and parts and do it again.

I've had more limitations with Flash on You Tube (it didn't like a 1.5 GHz AMD? after v.6 was it?) and dealing with tiny mATX chassis (expletives not carried on).

The one problem I do have with computer setup is that I get a bit confused poking around in small spots and trying to decipher where the connections go while sorting through so many wires...it's kind of a technical dyslexia to overcome. Because I have so many things to do at once it seems if I get stalled a bit I tend to wait to get to a project until I can get it done right.

I agree with that post. I seldom re-install windows and only as a last resort. I have been running my win 7 install for a year an a half without any issues, before that I ran two Win XP computer for approximately 8 years on the same installs. For me the trick is weekly and monthly maintenance just like a car. I do make cloned copies or a fresh install so I could clone over if needed, but the time for updates and installing and updating hundreds of software titles in mind boggling. Much easier for me to maintain the original installs. Now it is was someone elses compouter I was working on I wouldn't be that patient.
 
I'm going to run into problems in spring...

I can keep the Dimension 2350 on XP if I stay offline and use it for service data.

The Compaq EVO is another matter. I just have little clue right now about how any of my computers will run 8.1, if at all, especially if the BIOS of the average Intel D845 chipset and it's usual Phoenix/Award BIOS has NX or any other new requirements.

At some point or other the quadcore is going to have to be a small server and I'm going to have to transport data in and out of the recording center and the bedroom for a media center. I'm getting another chassis, other surplus parts/RAM/peripherals from a TH member across the state in Oregon City (Oregon) and I've got an Asus P4PE-X to test in a large 90s AOpen server tower frams so other than one AMD I have a bunch or D845 based P4 MBs. The P4PE-X will take 800 MHz FSB processors if I use DDR over like PC3200 and D845 set MBs theoreticly can use uo to just over 3GHz CPU. That has a 2.4 Celery right now but no L2 cache SUCKS. 2.8 GHz P4 would be ideal to me.

If that sounds like Geek to you, 'tis so, verily.

Larry, if you get rid of the OS (7, 8 or whatever it is that is the actual OS) you are left to basicly start over at FORMATTING. Also, without that REGISTRY in place all of the stuff you saved is GONE, as I explained. You'll be twice as screwed.

KEEP THAT DATA BACKED UP!

That was just so I can roll new opamps into the Xonar, LOL. I usually have it on for months...

I'd have to plug in another computer as mine gets shut down every night and booted fresh every morning or afternoon depending upon what I am doing that day.
 
I have come to a conclusion. Spotify is a darker sound not as close to everything I'm use to. The rips are more defined realistic. I did get a 7 port belkin usb hub. Trying to do some music on a thumb drive.
 
Crashed hard yesterday. Been working my butt off. This morning 1 crash, one blue screen. 7 plug Belkin USB hub. 2 empty. Jer I gave that big tower and mb and everything to my nephew. I think he wants to game a bit. Hour remaining.
