Przem's Phase Linear 700 Series II White Oak Conversion

What do you know that we don't know, Lee?

Surely not...If they sound any better, I don't think mere humans can take it.

With the WOPL 500 that Jer did and the ALK'ed and Crited La Scalas, all I want now is a tricked out fully comp WOPL 1000 and some All'ed and Crited KHorns..

I think that will be the ultimate, and I will be done building speakers, and buying audio gear......for good....

Save a tuner for me...

Here ya go Przem...

The only change being 2-3.6uf caps in place of the 7.5 cap. I have used Solen for all caps with no problems. the 10 ohm resistor has been changed out for 2-20ohm Mills 12 watt ausio grade resistors.

Fantastic! Thank you Lee.

Still the schematic would be needed, please... ;-)

As weel as your kind advice on where to buy the autotransformers required....?

Yep....don't know about the transformer yet. Was looking at Al's site for a couple hours this morning and I see one listed for tweeter attenuation duties for 89.00. I don't know if that's the same one as the 3619 though...I'll e-mail him and Crites and see what's up...

That's very kind, Lee...

I'm kinda curious myself Przem. You going to build a set of K's?

Przem, if you look to the bottom of the parts list you will see an address and phone number for Universal Transformer and the part number...

Is it something wrong with me or it's normal?

Changing the subject - I have an impression that listening to my WOPL based system, it shows immediately too much compressed recordings. For example, today I picked Skunk Anansie's 'Post Orgasmic Chill' and got surprised. I like Skin and her band full of energy music, but I could not stand almost equal volume of every sound in every song... OK, maybe a bit exagerating...
Still, it seems the fidelity of upgraded Phase Linear 700 worked as sort of x-ray on badly mastered CDs. Possible? Or is it really something wrong with me... :-)?

Welcome to the curse of REALLY GOOD amps. Przem there are some remastered vinyl to CD recordings I just can not listen to. It has to be a shitty vinyl recording to begin with usually, but there are exceptions to that also. Some old BTO is almost unlistenable, whereas some Floyd is excellent....go figure. Try some Shpongle--"Corridor of Mirrors" there is some Dynamic range in that stuff....

The farther up the fidelity ladder you go the more critical we can be of mastering, mixdown and compresswion/expansion techniques. As little as I know about them I feel being critical of some is still OK being there have been some EXCELLENT albums and CD's released.......Allen Parsons comes to mind....Dire Straits....so what's the poorly recordings excuse??

Well, it's my dream, Lee...

For a father of a couple youngsters it may be hard to justify. Have you put a pencil to the total costs yet?? And given a little time, those costs can be shaved quite a bit by bargain hunting....

I (being a NON-GIFTED carpenter) managed it so a real, live one should have no problem. Also, I have run both the BMS 4592's and the DCM-50's. I really can't tell a difference in the sound quality department. The DCM-50 is less efficient, but in this application that is a good thing in my book. But either sounds worlds better than the K-55, or the Atlas driver. I have tried both of those too, and they are 1" drivers, really no comparison to the 2" drivers.

If someone had a CNC machine, I'll bet we could arrange a group buy of pre cut knock down K enclosures. I'd be in for a pair.....ala SpeakerLab..
