For obsolete Pioneer parts, that is a reasonable price for your FM chip. Scanning through the rest of his inventory, he has a good stock of well-priced vintage parts for Pioneers.

That will be a relief once the FM chip is installed on your SX-1280, and works properly.

The chip arrived today and it's on it's way to the shop.

Funny, this was on the google homepage when I fired up the PC. Random!

Anyway...wish me luck!

Just when you thought an obsolete Pioneer part was unattainable, there is a supplier. Provided the part is all that's needed for the FM side of your receiver, you can rest easier, Joe.

I had been reading on the internet, this particular chip was the reason many Pioneer fans decided to opt away from this series of SX-XX80 receivers.

Depends on just how much you love it, how long you plan on living, divided by how long they last...................

That's bad news, Joe. How many other NOS chips could be bad? The trouble is - and I'm not a technician- you won't discover the chip is faulty until it has been installed.

Hi. Being that it's out of my way to go to this shop, and they seem relatively uninterested in working on it more, I guess I'll go pick up the ol' anchor next week. Fortunately, they are not charging me labor and they did work on it a bit.

At every turn, I have black cloud over my head with audio equipment problems. Frustrating.

Despite the chip being bad, was any of the other work undertaken, Joe? Or was it a matter of deciding not to go any further into the receiver, without a working FM chip?

I really don't think they did anything. They thought that it was in otherwise wonderful condition functionally. I asked about cleaning, they said they did some. I'll be the judge but I'm not paying for anything. Expectation is low.
