don't think that zener is 1.8v...might be 3.3v

found triples but the smallest is 3.3v

Thanks bud. Yeah another thing tho... and this would be BIG help.. if anyone knew where to find the parts placement diagrams on this SA-520, that would be GREAT. Maddening having to trace out solder traces and compare with the skeezer to figure out what's what.

I'll probably pull the trigger this weekend tho. Just contemplating on which set of outputs to go for, and a meter reading here.. another there... taking my time. :study:

The STV3H has not been subbed to date. Nothing else has the Tempcocurve that it has. Echowars at AK is getting close though.

Those STV diode stacks were very unreliable, and were prone to failing open circuit,
more modern amps do away with the STV-3 diode stack and the other diode and resistor, and replace it with an adjustable bias circuit like the one shown below. the transistor should be mounted on the heat sink between the output transistors, and also coupled to the heatsink with thermal grease.[attachment=0:5d986g8k]vbe-mult.jpg[/attachment:5d986g8k]

The reliability factor had a lot to do with the application. My spec 2's have 2 of each, the STV3 and STV4's. Have to be careful when handling them to not break the leads, but very little drift over 36 years.
