Can't tell if it is or not... Should I try the idea of hooking it up in series with a 2K resistor, then check the voltage drop?

I will give you two days to find the originals for under 5 apiece, then it's coming back unfixed.
That was impossible for the SA-6500 II. The British guy is actually about in line, other than the VAT and shipping.

Not even for used. SA-6500/IIs are hot numbers for sellers right now, for no real reason. Just the nostalgia and cute factors at play. They aren't selling well. The TX-5500/SA-6500 II combo has relisted I don't know how many times. The prices don't sit well vs Pioneer receivers or other brands.

Who do you buy from that charges you VAT. There is no VAT unless you live in the UK or Euro. They have to pay VAT if they buy from me. They get them at customs.

Hey Lee n All..

I'm looking at these here to replace 'em. Epitaxials with more than enough on the voltage and current, gain of 55 and Ft of 30M. Parts Express has 'em for a good price..

2SA1943 (PNP)

and

2SC5200 (NPN)

Whatchoo think of these here? Orange - I'm going to go forward with these or something similar. The "mod" is basically re-using the top hole in the heatsink where the plastic "guide pin" on the existing clamps goes, but instead using an insulator washer and a screw direct. I'll save all the old stuff if ya don't like it (try it.. you'll like it... heheh)

Don't worry, it won't come back to you with staples and bolts in the forehead with green skin... it'll sound purty... :thumbright:

I'm still curious as to what was the problem with the NTEs and then how these work when the reviewer was replacing a totally different pair?

I don't really know what the graphs say with these things. I'm gonna check the mailbox and finally go to sleep soon, would just like to figure.

Orange, I tried to source for you with no luck either sorry, I definitly wouldn't purchase them from ebay, hell if there is something unnoticable and you intall the originals you could be in the same situation, or you could be buying then in the same condition..I'd just do the 220's with the aluminum clamp. You have people to help you here.. there no alteations to the heatsink and they are still avalible in a abundance and reasonably priced. Do you have a WOPL?
Think of it as a JERPIO...
Jer the Frankensistor is awesome love it...LMAO!
Shoulda photoshopped him VU meters for eyes or blinking LEDs...
Come on amerian motors did it, few parts from here and there and a few great cars came from them like the Javelin, ugly F*#kin thing but everyone wanted one.
Speaking of Pioneers...Lee its alittle over a month...??

Hey Johnny - Got a good part number and source for those TO220 clamp style mounts? I remember seeing something like those, so yeah... if we can get away with zero mods on the heatsink, that'll be better.

Those resistor packs are tough to come by too tho.. if anyone has a good source for dual .22 ohm 2 watters, let me know. Otherwise a couple of standalone's will do in a pinch.

Hmmm.. actually tho.. I think I'm going to have to go with the TO-218 style or something "bigger" than the 220's. Basically ones with the 20mm width, I think

Good find! Thanks! :thumbright:

Yeah, one thing I'm learning outside the Nav is where to find parts here. I was spoiled - pretty much all the parts were in the "system", and if not it was up to the "expediters" to find 'em for ya.
