I would say that was a stout system, Joe. Whoever eventually owned a system configuration as you described is one happy camper.

Nando- The company I worked for would rent out a hotel and have all the dealers come and set up in different rooms like a mini CES just for us. It was very cool as they would bring flagship products of our lines to show off. I was in the business for only a couple weeks, knew nothing about gear. Quite the introduction. Thats where I heard that set up.

Thanks Lee! It was awesome chatting with you! I guess that 700B wasn't meant to B ($740 + $100 ship). Ah well. Thank you for you kindness. Your enthusiasm is catchy!

@Skynyrd77- I'm using a Denon DAP-2500 for a pre. The 700B here is great. I'm really surprised how smooth and still revealing it is. Wasn't quite ready to swing $800 plus for one, but not a value issue. (budget). Might try to swing half that for a PL400 and WO it later. I'm feeling a bit more confident in a 400 after my chat with Lee. If it can be at least this nice, but with just less power, I'll give it a whirl.

Absolutely Joe. A 400 is not a bad stopgap and it's quite possible it will be plenty of amp for you...The Snells would love to sidle up to a sweet 400.....

Once I get a true fc 700 or 400. I can borrow a modwright for 5 days. That's gonna be awesome but that's a 5k tube pre also. I don't plan on buying one lmao. I got a line on a few 700's if it works out ill offer you 1.

Is it possible that a fully WO'd, and or other modded PL 400 could sound better then this 700B sitting in front me as it is? (Not in Max volume). Seems like from what we talked about, it may be possible???

Absolutely Joe, that 700 has just got the new driver board and a quasi comp output stage. The Fully comp models are quieter, much larger soundstage, less distortion, and the bass is even tighter....

Nando- Nice threads & classy photos. Reading these along with my conversation with Lee makes me feel more confident that I'll be thrilled with a 400, and even more so WO'd.

Thanks, Joe. I think you would be pleased with the PL 400, especially, one that's been restified by Lee, with the latest upgrades.

Nando.

Looking at prices. Hard to get a deal on eBay. In my mind, I'm still 20yrs behind on pricing, when I used to be able to search a circle of pawn shops and find something cool at a good price. I'm sure most people know what I'm talking about. I remember seeing a full stack of PL and priced not bad. I bought a nice Nak stack around that time. Shoulda woulda coulda.

Might loose on a second amp. Might win.

Good to check history of prices and use some rational thinking. I always wonder if someone might use a friend or a second account to drive up bidding. I look at a thing, try not to low ball, and drop down a max bid. Hate to loose by a buck or 5. But then there's no idea what the next max bidder is at. Not sure I want to find out...lol.
