New to me PL400

What were you playing through the pre...cd, vinyl? Just a thought if vinyl were you playing a MC cartridge through a MM pre? Some will play but you would have to crank it.

I'm planning on changing out the supply caps and rectifier this weekend on the 400. Excuse my stupidity, but how do I hook up the snubber caps? As far as the c-1 goes, I tried a tablet and cd player through all inputs( except phono of course) with same results. It sounds great, just don't seem to be able to push the 400 very well.

hmmm... perhaps you are having an issue. I hooked up my C1 and tested it with the M-504 and at 1 'o clock on the volume the plants are shaking in the other room and the meters are at just over 0dBs (200w mark) which is pretty consistent with the Perreaux and Kenwood preamps also

Ok. This is strange. I forgot to turn the c-1 off last night ( so it's been on for 24 hours) and went in to play with it again and... I can barely crack the volume knob. At about 11 'o clock the meters hit -2... which is where I left it last night. When I hit play I thought something blew up and jumped out of the chair. Are farts supposed to be lumpy?

Sounds like you woke the monster (which is a good thing). Maybe it was not used for a long time and now the output signal caps are recharged correctly? I am sure Joe or Lee understand better the why

I will send you a picture Bruce...

No, 4 of them, look at the picture closely. One is partially hidden behind the wires.

I'm not sure what I would do with this amp without your help. It would have probably turned itself into a sweet looking backyard fire pit with meters by now.:happy3:

No reflection on you bud, speaking from experience. Sometimes the more and harder I worked at it the worse it got..

I knew that. Same here sometimes, but I surely am a persistent bastard and love a challenge. I'll report back tonight.
