Couple more quick questions. Just going over the BOM at lunch and see on the Q1L/R there is a note to "see orientation notes below", but I don't see them anywhere?

Also, all the jumper wires, 11L1-11R1 for example...should I be installing these on this build? Says not to, but also says the White Oak Backplane kit accomplishes this function (I'm not using the white oak backplanes). Just want to make sure.

Use the jumpers with the stock backplanes. Orient the transistors according to the outline on the E board. In the earlier versions we were using a few different combinations and the pin outs could be different. Not so in your case.

New photo - New screw up...

Finished populating the board tonight. Got the bottom of the BOM and read that I wasn't supposed to use the R7L/R, R8L/R, R10L/R, or Q2L/R.

Now many of the parts in the baggies were labeled specifically for quasi or full comp but these were just mentioned at the bottom. So I screwed up.

Gotta go figure out what parts to remove now. Boo. Because I was pretty happy with how this looked.

That mod was VERY RECENT and was instituted to drop the temp of the low voltage trannys Q1,Q2....and it works well....

Thank you. I got that from Joe and realized my parts didn't match up, but this makes sense now.

I ordered my kit from Joe a few months ago, but just got the documents from him recently. The change happened in the time between. So, my kit doesn't reflect that mod. I'll need to grab some resistors and those caps if I want to do that. Not a big deal, but I'll just leave it as is for now.

Thanks.

That will be fine Dan, the Q1,Q2 combo runs a little hotter but still well within spec. Just another example of Joe responding to customer concerns about a perceived problem.....he's good like that.

The E board amps I've built without this mod are doing fine. We've measured the case temps directly and it's well below the max temp of the device. One of the benefits is less overall heat in the interior of the amp.....an admirable goal.....

Great to hear. If I have to order any more parts for the thing, I'll get those few resistors and caps to make the mod. Otherwise I'll leave it as is. Not worried about it at all.

Guess that means I'm pretty much done building the board. :)

Ok, so I took the amp apart tonight. Started installing the DC protection board and the bulk caps. Also, removed the original circuit board since I'll have my new one fully completed shortly.

I'm at the point to where I'm going to run the wires for the AC, DC, and ground to the DC protection board and came across a question. The site where the board directions are state, and I quote,

"Anyone who is installing any of the relay boards along with a White Oak driver board (PL14/20) should make the signal grounding connections per the White Oak directions."

Can someone elaborate as to what the differences are here? I am obviously installing the WO circuit so I want to clear this up.

OK,

#1------cut the solid ground wire between the RCA input jack copper plate and the negative speaker posts.
#2------Eliminate the white wire from the 3 terminal board on the right backplane to the old board. That wire could also tie to the copper ground plate. The idea here is to eliminate any ground wire to the new WO board EXCEPT a new wire going from Pad 5L on the new WO board to the copper bus bar (star ground) between the PS caps.
#3-----run a new ground wire from the the middle terminal of J3 on the DC protect board to star ground point.
#4----refer to wattsabundant's pics on his website for the DC + feed from the original backplane set up to terminal J3-1 on the DCP.

Also, could you post a pic of how your backplane is right now I can make sure I haven't missed anything...

I'll get some pics later night or tomorrow morning.

The DCP instructions had me cutting the solid wire from the rca jacks to the speaker jacks (as you stated in #1 above). BUT, they say to run a new wire from the rca plate to the bar that runs across the caps. In my case though, I should not install that wire, correct?

The DCP instructions also say that the J3-2 ground wire should come from the grounding lug between the 2 rows of transistors. You're saying I should get that from the bus wire between the caps though?

Correct...

Also correct..
Hope that helps...
