My first experience with this flavor of tape and I think it will work nicely for open reel tape trades down the road.

It's good to hear the Ampex 632 is working out fine. How many tapes did you end up buying?

Not too much....yet :toothy10: :toothy10:. 3 pancakes of Ampex 632 plus two 10" reels and six 7" reels of Quantegy 632. Curious to see if there is a difference between Ampex and Quantegy formulas.

Five of the 7" reels are gifts for a friend who is getting back into recording.

I am going to try and grab a couple of 10" LPR 35 reels from Splicit next month and maybe ten to fifteen 7" reels of Quantegy 632- that should hold me for a few.

You are on a tear! I will note the settings you have used for the bias and eq on your RT-1020L using the Ampex 632. It's nice of you to gift a few tapes to your friend. What R2R is he running?

My buddy is running an 8- track Tascam console, not sure of the model number though.

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - CD remaster to JVC TD-V661 Dual Capstan HXPRO (Maxell XL-II 100) No dolby, +4db peaks

Peak scan feature on the Yamaha CDC-775 came in handy for this.

Phil Collins' Hello I Must Be Going! and No Jacket Required from vinyl to tape, for in my dad's Seat Vario 2003.
Deck used was a NAD 6100. A magnificent deck I got for free from Lucky from TH/AK. It has a little exterior damage, but he fully tweaked the deck before giving it. Also with the remote included.
While no NR was used, NAD has a funky mix of HX Pro and DynEQ (Only brand to have DynEQ next to Tandberg), and an useful function for portable players and car decks: the CAR button.
It does basic dynamic range reduction. While I would never use this on my tapes, in the car I have noticed that with tapes with a wide DR, you have to turn up and down the volume all the time. Not useful in the car.
I have always been a supporter of adding Dynamic Range Reduction to mobile devices and car radios, so that the studios do not need to squash the dynamics, or that both dynamic and squashed versions are released.
This function does just what the studios shouldn't

The Jed Shepherd show from Phoenix FM. Recorded from the live PLS stream (had a few dropouts, but the songs that had this were re-recorded on the left over tape).
Jed runs POST/POP records, which sells cassette and recently vinyl too, mostly indie. Great music, and great initiative to get cassettes popular again.
He always is looking for new music, and plays it in his 2 hour radio show. Also did some shoutouts, and I am in there too!
Deck: NAD 6100
Tape: Daiso 120 minute tape (While a decent tape on most decks, it was quite outstanding on the NAD 6100)
Useful thing about the PLS stream is that they also add the song info, which Foobar2000 shows.
I'm a bit too lazy to type the track list, really.

Daniël: I have read with great interest on TH about the NAD 6100 and 6300 cassette decks. I had not heard much about those models before these past six months, while following posts and threads revealing the great satisfaction owners have had with them. Makes me want to try one out!

Nando.
