Yes it does, i'm very familiar with this method and i use it all the time, a ferric with no N.R. is my cup of coffee, really

Do you use your JVC TD V661 for recording on Type I?

Yes I do, and sometimes it does better than recording onto chromes (especially basf chromes). The beauty of that deck is it brings out the best in ANY tape. It isn't very heavy build quality but is so durable, have put mine through hell and never an issue. Just needed a new slave capstan drive belt when I first bought it. Made sure I got the original japanese replacement.

I have a 661 and 662 which are pretty much my go- to recording decks. JVC 3- head units really will record on just aout any brand of tape well.
