Re: Larry's 700B

Why don't you ask Joe why you are getting 500 WPC. So do you like the sound? I would sell it to you ; but you would have to kill me. LOL

I'm glad it made you ears ring. I think I know or can get Bob Carver's email. I had it at one time. I know some one who might know. I'll ask John. I swear some one told me he was an engineer at SAE. I'll do it later. I feel like crap.

Re: Larry's 700B

No need to go through all that. It's obviously a problem with my equipment.

I was getting pretty radical with it and took out an output, a straight short. Threw 100 volts + DC to the Speakers. THEY WERE NOT AFFECTED IN THE LEAST!!!!!!
Had some XPL909's with the same date code and things are now back to normal. IT WORKS!!!!!!

I love the sound of this amp, IT IS VERY, VERY CLOSE sonically to the Spec 2. Some days I don't know if i could tell them apart until you wanted to get loud. Then I could.

Re: Larry's 700B

Yes but you used the same equipment when you got it. So there shouldn't be a difference unless you dropped the equipment or something. Have you gotten it to clip since you modded it? Now the Carver forum is waiting for me to report back about the Black Gates and every thing. LOL

What do you mean by the get loud part? What are the Specs rated at? When do you think you will do yours. I wonder if you use the Wimas or which ever ones you use if there will be a big difference because of the Black Gates?

Do you think I should look for some voice of the theater speakers so it can be used as it should be? LOL

Re: Larry's 700B

Larry the 700 stomps the dogf#$% out of the Spec in the get loud department. WAY MORE HEADROOM!!!!!!
The Specs are rated at 250 RMS per, but that is a VERY conservative rating. 300-325 is more like it.
The thing with excess power I've learned especially with these Kornerhorns is that when it comes to a transient(and i wouldn'rt be surprised if some transients were in the 800-900 watt range) if it is a clean and unclipped transient a speaker can and does live through it. If its grossly distorted or clipped the speaker sees the distortion or flat part of the clipped signal as DC, THAT, I believe is what gets a speaker. So no matter WHAT SPEAKERS you have, they will benefit from MORE, CLEANER power, AKA DYNAMIC HEADROOM!!

I guess we will see if the midgrade Blackgates made that much difference because my 2 B's will get Nichicon "Muse" and Elna "Silmic II's" and "Cerafines" Joe at White Oak has suggested some wimas to bypass a couple uncoupling caps in the input section that may have an effect, also the "Direct/Normal coupling switch on the back panel has a much greater affect than i previously thought. That may be due to the old caps(electro's) in the "Normal" switch setting. It sounds better in the "Direct" setting which bypasses the previously mentioned cap and resistor. And that may be another area for improvement, resistors, thay can contribute to the noise level also. I know Pioneer was very cognizant of that fact as their replacement resistor process was way more complicated than I first realized. So that's another area getting my attention lately.

In the Carver forum your 700 was featured as my intro project.

Re: Larry's 700B

There are 2 Carver forums. One is fancy the other isn't. I mostly go to the one that isn't fancy. Feel more at home there. I post more there and get more info. They treat you better.

Re: Larry's 700B

The pair he had was a 700 and a 400. I'm a member of both. I just post more in the one that isn't fancy. I get better answers. Some in the other one think they are funny. And they aren't.

That is what I have always heard and read. Even 35 year old Panasonic Thrusters will benefit from a amp that can output a clean 700 WPC.

Re: Larry's 700B

I am not saying Larry cranks his thrusters, :cyclops: just that they will be audibly happier with 5 watts of clean power from a 700B than they will with 5 watts from a Yorx Square Wave form all in one system. :joker:

Well Larry has figured out combination of series and parallel wiring for his 30 sets of Thrusters so he will be able to absorb all the power the 700B can put out. Man his neighbors are gonna get sick of Barry Manilow belting out Mandy 24/7. :cyclops:

I use to test my speakers with the 1812 Overture. That is a test. It is all over the place music wise. I would rattle windows and shake the floor with that Hafler system. LOL
