Kevin's "I Want a Phase Linear 700 B White Oaked" thread

Still is Kevin. Off work because of.........what?? Yep , load sharing went well.

Thought maybe you had off for easter / good friday...some companies did unfortunatly not mine...
Did you find your buzz?

Yep. just where you said it was and the 47k fixed it. Refer to Jer's thread where proper acknowledgement was given.

Awesome, them caps on the transistors back plane also helped for critical listening and got rid of some of the hash in the sound...goin to check out Jer's thread..

Jani has finished with the Post- White Oak conversion report and bound it very nicely.

Still haven't listened to the 1KW beast, afraid I won't want to send it on. Soooooooooooooo, with this one I beter get everything done before I have a listen.
Torturing the horns with the half-assed 700B we thru together to get us through that period of NO PLWO 1000, WHICH, my Sweetie informs me will be grounds for divorce.

I don't know Lee, see your sleeping bag and jammers on the floor in the room, looks like your sweetie might have you in the dog house...LOL Guess it hard to sleep with someone yelling out resistor values and sexy lines from the oscillascope!!!!!LMAO.. anywhooo..how is the build comin? need some pics of the progress.
Does anyone have the specs on the PS trannie of the 700B?
Also I want a decent clean schematic of the 400 if someone could post a download of it...Thx's

Glad you posted those pics.... WOW... Thats alot of stuff. What are the speakers on top of the K-HORNS ????

Those are some cs77's I think is what they are called. Up until recently had a pair of Heresies on each horn, AND a Cerwin-Vega D-9 in front of each one. It got real LOUD a few times. I have sold a lot of stuff lately, but been on a buying spree the last couple weeks. Stuff is gettiing set on the desks again..
Not much progress the last few days, been experimenting with differtent input/pot/board combination routing. And checking noise lvels with each different one. The ATS is phenomernal for this kinda stuff. I think I can check individual components for distortion if I can load the generators correctly.

And last ut not leasat, trying to figure out how to incorporate these quiet squirrel cage fans, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay quiet.

John, the 700 trannie is 2.5KW I believe.
Jani has told me that when I talk in my sleep, if she waits until a pause in whatever conversation I'm having that she can jump in that conversation by asking me a questuion which IO promptly answer. She's said that I will go on for an hour or so.

Nice, becareful, you might agree to something you won't remmeber!!!!
Geeeezzzz Lee you got alot of equiptment...is all that there for repair? Alotta PL's....are those spec one's yours? Cause I've been looking for one....hint hint.....

Oh yeah the Spec's are all mine. One bunch bought brand new in 1975, the other set with the rack at a estate sale for 500.00 I have a third one , but it was promisded to anopther guy, but it looks like he won't be doing much of anything for years. Give me a month to make sure that deals off, then I'll line you out on the ECHOWARS upgrades.

All those Phase Linears in the floor appear to be a trip hazard. You probably need to put those in some boxes and mail them all to me. I'd hate for you to trip and fall with those old 400's and 700's in your walkway....

What is the amp between the old trunks and the 700's on the floor? Looks kinda like a 700 with some type of fan or heatsink or something mounted on the back...Just curious...

It was a morphodite 400. Here's sopme piocs. Someone put that heatsink there in place of the back wall outputs.

Done with the RCA in's and pot bypass wiring. Went from the RCA in to the pots. Went from the RCA in's to the down throw on the SPDT switch. Went from the pots to the up throw position on the SPDT switch. Went from the "common" position on the SPDT to the board inputs.

Lee what resistors are Jer talking about on the board? Is it something I should look at too?

John, your board is built with 2.7 ohms in both the R2L and R2R position. I believe Jer has S/N1 built by Lee and subsequent measurement has shown us that there is no reason for them to be different, despite that bad day that Bob Carver evidently had :-)

AFAIK, that is the only White Oak board ever built with the 2.7 ohm in one channel and 56 ohms in the other, Just about all Phase Linear amps were built with this mysterious disparity however.

Joe, all other P{L 700's wether in direct or normal coupling mode will show a 220K from signal to ground at input, then seriesed with the 100K pot. Is 47K enough to show the original impedance to the pre-amp?

On another note. I was checking my Ser I 700 I got last month, and before I checkled anything nI ran some distortion sweeps.

After the sweeps I checked DC offset and bias. DC offset 179 mv on the left, 157 mv on the right. Bias 20.62 VOLTS DC. Both right and left were the same.

Would anyboidy like to explain that ONE??
