Johan's Phase Linear 700B Fully Comp Conversion

Thanks for the confidence boost lol. Maybe I should hook the pioneer back up lol

I power up my Pioneer VSX-9500s once a day, try to keep power cycles to a minimum. I use a fan on it at all times, its a cooker =).

It's the least I can do.......hell it's times like that Jason that makes a fella think he's leading a charmed life.....

So the bottom line, leave powered on all the time or 1 power cycle per day ok?

Your preference, but they do sound better after being on 48 hours. Turn em on Friday Morning and off Sunday night. or whatever schedule you keep....

I dunno about power cycling every day.....
The boards just don't like going hot and cold. it's wot encourages bad solder joints over time, when they expand and shrink constantly from the change in temperature.
If u can afford the extra on your power bill, leave it on all the time if used regularly.

bias

lee....if the picture I emailed you is correct, then it seems I have a bias problem.....which would explain the poor sound I am getting....am waiting on your confirmation that my probes are correct as per picture emailed....

How long did you let ot warm up? Usually 15 minutes will do...

And to remove any confusio, hook up to the backplane test points...

Please bleed the caps, that hookup is disastrous with a lead slip..

....

ok....am on the backplanes......see a bias + sign...then 3 different bias -.....what do I do from there?....wanna make sure i dont fuck any up...do you have a picture of points to use?..thx

The yellw bias + for the positive led, the yellow bias- for the negative lead, got mini grabbers or just straight leads?? And I agree, if the bias was at 160 mv, it probably sounded like shit...

We have a cap bleeder made of a 10watt or larger resistor in the 50-200 ohm range with 2 alligator clips. One to the + side of the caps the other to the - side of the caps, bleeds off all that potentially destructive energy should you slip with the leads. And you are in NON-SLIP territory, the land of bad things....
