Hitachi D 550

He got evacuated because of the fires. He knows now. I want this done also. Just to see if it does sound like a pioneer. You should have some stuff.I'll send the 1000 tomorrow with the tapes.

Just bought this deck on the bay. It's Denon DR-M22. I don't know if it will be a good one or not, but it went for about $26.00 plus shipping, so around $40.00, and in 1984 it sold for $420.00. It is a three head deck with metal capability. It looks to be in pretty fair condition. I am bidding on another deck or two, and think I'll find a keeper, and maybe sell the others. Anyone know anything about this deck in particular, or about Denon decks in general?

So, nobody knows anything about this deck? How about Denon decks from this era? It should be headed this way, so as soon as I receive it, I'll be able to compare it with Larry's K-1000 Yammie, and sometime, to the Hitachi D-550. I will have some Blue Labels, some Maxell XLII's, and some of the contraversial BASF Chrome, (don't know if they are crap or not yet), tapes. This should becoming really interesting....I hope among these decks there is a keeper. If not, we'll keep looking. Maybe I need to find a NAK and get over it. I don't know why I have a mental block against Nak decks.....I've avoided getting one for all those years back in the late 70's till the 80's or whenever the CD player arrived on the scene...or at least until they started putting CDP's in cars..so I don't know if I finally need to break down and get one....I just don't know.
 
I had the Denon awhile back. I didn't keep it.LOL Scooter warming up heading to Fedex. Should be there tomorrow. DO NOT THROW BOX AWAY. DO NOT CUT TY-WRAP.LOL This was a spendy one.Box, manual, remote. Non-working.Deox and I paid 45.00 for it.LOL

That's a good deck. The DR-M22's and 44's are well built all around and have stellar heads (for the money). My only complaint of Denon decks of that period is speed accuracy and variation (drift over time).

This should give you a better understanding of Denon tech; the DR-M22 predates this brochure but abscent the Dolby HX Pro, it's a comparable rig in terms of build quality to what was offered from '85 - '88.
 
I think you're gonna love it, great score! I have the fancier DN-790R which was made much later than yours, http://www.vintagecassette.com/Denon/DN-790R" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , it's a really great sounding rig for being a cheapy lightweight, so it must be like Blaze said, they put all the money in the heads and circuitry :D

The build quality really took a nose dive on the later models like mine, very cheesy build, but the sound is fanstastic for the $$'s, I think you'll be impressed :thumbright:

I'm just ranting because Denon had the balls to ask $1,000 for this in 1995 when Teac, Sony, Pioneer Elite and Aiwa were building tanks with Rolls Royce tactile build quality for just a few hundred more MSRP (read $25 for them ;) ) for the a lesser Buick like build (sorry Nando :oops: ).

BTW, I love the silver face one you got!!! :thumbright:

I forgot my Denon also has the dreaded drift syndrome that the later ones suffered from, I guess that's why they put a speed adjust on it?? Your's should be fine tho. It has a better transport, enjoy it Sutton :D
 
Well I have put off the pulling the transport. Gosh I hate pulling transports.LOL I'm at the other belts. I'm about to go in. I should be able to tell pretty quick if the capstan belt is to tight. Then The dreaded TT.LOL Get everything cleared of my bench and table.

Any luck with the Hitachi D-500 yet? Find a belt which will work? Is there anything I can do to help?

I have to clean and demag the heads.The peaks are low I think for my recordings. They have come up the more I have used it. I got the other decks.I'm wondering if a 1020 tire will work on a 1000.

We have a problem Houston. It is only recording on one channel. Playback the peaks seem low unless I go to Type I. Then they look like I record. You may if you wish ask Jerry to look at it. Let me clean the boards and some other things and I'll let you know.

Recording now on both channels. So Houston problem is fixed. Am recording will see what the peaks are on playback. There is a split on the recording peaks.
