OK this is my impression on play back. Sounds sort of bland. Does not make my ears perk up and listen to more. Really sounds dull to me.

When I started this I said it looks like an older Pioneer.I have done a few of them and I still say it. If you were to sell this deck I would say 10 or 15 dollars. The belts cost more.To me it isn't worth have it all cal'd and every thing. Speed is good. This is just my opinion. I would clean it up on the out side and put it on a shelf. Against my Yamaha I got Friday from you.It doesn't hold a candle.

Is the other Yamaha (the K-1000) that I sent working? I was wondering if a good jarring duning shipment might make her work? Any ideas what might be wrong with mine? Anything you can do to fix her and get her going is much appreciated, and I think it might be smart just to hold on to the Hitachi until you determine if there is anything you can do for the Yammie before returning both of them hopefully in the same box. It'll be cheaper on shipping that way. I am shocked that the Hitachi doesn't sound any better. Bak in it's day it sounded realy good. Maybe the head are forn, maybe it's way out of alignment. Could be lots of stuf, but if she doesn't have it..........she doesn't have it. I hope an idler wheel will get her running. Until that time, I have the Denon, which is a very nice 3 head deck, and the Onkyo, wheich seems to be a fair two head deck. The Denon is direct drive, so I hope it will give me good service, but the Onkyo does have blets, and the tapes I make on the Denon play back at odd (low) levels on the Onkyo....and the left channel in particular is lower than the right...but both are no where near 0 db...to +3db where they were recorded..so I don't know what is going on there.

Any help with the Yam is great. From what I hear, it is probably the best deck I own....if it worked..

Mine started working right after I unpacked. It was spotty for a bit.I just hit it and it started working. There is a KX-1200 and a K-1020 for sale BIN for 59.99 together on ebay.In its day the Hitachi probably did sound good. You didn't have any thing to compare it to.

Have you recorded on the Onkyo and played back on it? Do that and play back on the Denon. Demag the head really good. Look at the playback head also. You have a rubber tip on your demagger so don't be afraid to touch it.Run your finger nail across it and see if you pick up ridges.
