I just went back through all the diodes, and they all show only one way transmission. I do not think I missed any.

Actually d106 and d107 one way shows me .6 and the other .9 but it does not trip off the sensor and I see no damage. I must not have really scrubbed the lead on well before. Do you think this is an issue or just a reading in circuit?

D106 and D107 have a 390 ohm resistor across them. D206 and D207 are the same. You will show some reading both directions in circuit. It shows a difference, and it doesn't show shorted. I'd call that OK.

I have all of the parts for the dim bulb tester already in my basement, I should have it together in a half hour or so. I just need to go and buy some sequential lightbulbs like 15w 30 w etc.

No, no sequential stuff. All i've ever used is a 100 watt. It's saved my ass many times.

PM me your address and I'll send you some outputs to replace the ones that are blown and the two GE oddballs. I will also send you some sil-pads to use instead of mica and grease.

I'm going to assume things are well enough to put it together and bring it up on the DBT. It'll tell us soon enough if I was right. Don't replace anything else right now. Once we get to that point where it's working then you can start replacing components one at a time. You do noit have the equipment to check IC's like the op-amps. If the transistors are all good chances are good that the op-amps are ok.

Where are you guys buying these fuses and what are you spending? Kind of stinks that parts express doesn't stock AGX fuses, and radioshack / mouser / digikey don't stock deoxit. So I can't simply place one order for anything anywhere! I should be able to use 250v fuses in place of the 125v versions so long as the form factor is appropriately agc or agx with the correct amperage right?

AGX 8 fuses (supply)
AGC 10 fuses (line)

.125 AGC fuses (llittelfuse USA 312 3AG 1/8A 250v) (preamp)

I also had trouble sourcing these fuses. I simply replaced the fuse holders with the same type visually, but that accept the longer style fuse. I then used common replacements with the same value. Not long after I had done this, I found a supplier in Canada that stocks the agx. Nutech electronics.

These fuses suck, I don't want to pay $8 for shipping and only get 1 or 2 fuses, blow them possibly and have to double my expenditure later...sigh.

I need all these fuses, and MAN does that price add up, I really hope the preamp works OK when I replace the fuse:

I'll throw some fuses in with the outputs. I don't have any 1/8 ampers though...

The holders I found at an electronics shop were identical to the old ones, only for the longer fuse. They were dirt cheap and direct replacement with no mods. Two solder joints each and dunzo. From the outside they are visually identical and from the inside are only a blonde one longer than the originals. I can get fuses at my local hardware store or auto parts for under a buck each.

Do you recommend when the .125a fuses for the 2000 preamp come in that I replace the fuse and then test it on the DBT? Or is there a good procedure for me to go through on that unit as well before I do anything else using the troubleshooting skills I learned on the PL400?

I get them from Mouser, and they didn't cost all that much. No real need to change out the fuse holders. Not sure where the $42 figure comes from but if you're ordering parts anyway you may as well toss them in with it. Order extras.


If the preamp didn't burn it's fuse there shouldn't be any involved procedure to bring it up. I might suggest cleaning the controls in it though.
