Well guys, everything could be use to good results only if you apply it correctly. Equalizers are one of those things that could make your sytem and recordings sound better if you know how to use it. Here I have my latest addition: a classic SAE simple eq that has given extra "live" to my system. Also, when dealing with old dull sounding recordings, a little sweetening added is very helpful. Just adjust and correct your room or recording defficiencies. Do not use it to amplify the whole spectrum. When comparing your eq "in" and "out" you must obtain a change in the sound quality and 024.jpg not an abrupt volume change. That means that you are over-doing it. If I switch my SAE, you'll only notice a little bit more of extended highs and solid bass. Not a boom box or couple of db's higher. I found this one in totally mint condition for only $80.00 !!! It works like a darling.

Lee: Nice! You probably know that model of Onkyo equalizer is difficult to find and a few people out there want one for their own Onkyo system.

Yes, Steve in Phoenix brought my attention to it and said it was a deal at 549.00. I am way impressed with it. It was bought mainly to make sure at the RMAF that should the room provide some anomolies we can correct it. It may be for sale after that. IIRC, they were 800.00 new in 1975..

Regardless of what the pics show the faceplate is flawless, as are the top and sides.. Correction, light scratces on the top and sides....very light..

I miss mine and it was fairly easy to adjust the IF strip etc to get really nice AM and full expanded band (look for a signoff sticker with the top frequency written in by the tester) and then I had an AM stereo decoder installed...it was awesome but unfortunately there was only one AM stereo stations left in the area (the university AM) and a lot of falsing (phase errors induced by adjacent stations would falsely resemble the 7 Hz pilot tone and trigger the decoder, which was only a mindtrick as it didn't change the audio one whit).

I had a 7070 and 2000A as well and hope the 221 will mod for wider AM sound as easily...

This is just me. I would do an analysis and do room treatments. Won't your tester do that with a mic hooked up? Lot of people out there they see an EQ in a system they think your trying to cover inadequacies of the system. What source you going to use? Just my opinion you know how far that goes. LOL Traps, tapestries, baffles. Depending on the floor covering, rug. Do as you see fit.

I'm not talking about the man cave. I love older Onkyo. You want to show off the amp. I would do a line level controlled source. No preamp. Show what the amp can do on it's own. That way you are adding very little to the sound. That kind of stuff impresses me. You have to be confident to do it. Cajones good selling point.

here's mine, 1988 PIO GR-777 10-band that the Stuster gifted me back around 2008ish, IIRC.
i never use it for music correction, as i go out of my way to obtain the best recordings i can, with as little futzing necessary as possible.

when i do use it, -for something besides a spectrum analyzer- it is during the odd movie and misc. video programme that suffers less than ideal sound quality.
i've actually managed to make many a muddy, stuffy old video reasonably listenable with this thing...
