Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

We want either the brown or blue/yellow stripe wire in tab hole #1, whichever fits best...tab hole #1 being that tab with the big white wire in it...
 
Roll that wire around the tab a little more and solder it..
 
We don't want the wire or the solder taking up the available space between the tabs, we need clearance there to keep from jumping spark. That still looks like a fairly cold joint. There should be a nice smooth flow of solder between the tab and wire, any time it curls away from one or the other means whichever surface it curls away from is either dirty or cold.
 
MUCH BETTER....trim the tag end off the bottom. Hold it while cutting so it doesn't go anywhere except where YOU put it.
 
Don't feel bad D2, I can't solder for shit either but looks like your getting there. Either too hot or too cold and flux just makes a mess for me. I practically destroyed some Gibson pots trying to solder in some pickups. I had a Weller station a few years ago but I was apparently for computer stuff, it could not melt the Gibson factory solder. Now I just have a old stick one and one of those old one that looks sort of like a Star Trek phaser. I can't even sweat a stinking water line joint
 
Yep, we all gotta learn somehow and its never the easy way =)
 
OK, now we want the brown/yellow stripe and blue in the next tab. if those two are still soldered together bring them up from the bottom. Much easier to solder that way. IF THEY ARE separate, bring one up from the bottom through the hole closest to the edge of the chassis and the other up through the tab...
 
This might take a while. They are too big to go into the hole when put together =(
 
Then separate them, trim back ONLY ABOUT 1/8 to 3/16 inch and bring the wires in separately...
 
Trying to separate them or suck the solder off them is really hard too because I cant hold the wire, iron and solder sucker at the same time.
 
Separated, one wire in that tab nearly fills the hole, the only way I'm gonna get both connected is to solder one wire onto the one already in the tab.
 
If the stripped wire is long trim it BEFORE you solder it.
 
There are two holes in the tab, you can see where I used the inside holes.
 
Hard to get your hands in there. That's why I mentioned needle nose pliars..
