The wire is obviously not fitting now because of a tiny bit of solder, I have tried to make it larger by melting the solder and sucking it away with the solder sucker. Its not working, the wire won't fit now. Does the wire have to go in the hole? Why can't it be simply soldered to the terminal?

I have no more wire to strip, its at its limit. Have tried twice dressing the wire with some solder, it won't fit in the hole of the connector now. If I push the wire through, strands of wire pop up and I'm back at square one. This is really getting to me. 5 hours to do 2 simple solder joints....FUCK!

You need to tin the wire first otherwise it will birdcage - I think that's what your seeing. Let us know if you don't know how to tin the wire first. I'll assume you don't have flux.

Ok - we posted at the same time.

Lubrication won't work here. Post a photo - when you tin a small amount of solder is best.

Good advice although D2 may require beer rather than milk.

The work bench was a complete mess, so have tidied it up and now its time to wash the dishes and start cooking. Got a bit frustrated there, but I think the second attempt at the bridge rectifier is much better. I just hope it passes, worried about that. The joints are solid with no movement and there are no solder 'bubbles'. When I get my mind focused on something, its very hard to walk away, so I usually keep hacking away at it until I achieve a reasonable result, or make some sort of progress.

I was thinking of doing a before and after video. Like have the B&O amp cranking some Prometheus, then do one with the WOPL using the same track. And just laugh at how well my crappy camera microphone handles it all

I'm up. Headed to the shop now.Those red wires will now have to be bent "up" at a 45 degree angle or better to clear the caps. Do not bend the tabs while doing it....
