Build a DBT, a variac will limit voltage BUT NOT CURRENT....you can tell if you're coming on against a short with a variac but you have to pay close attention and listen to the beginning of the squeal...
And you are very welcome Darc....really glad I can help and be successful...

All outputs when in backplane are Shorted both C to E and C to B except bottom output which measures 224 C to B and shorted C to E
What procedure and measurement do I use to check resistors? And what do they look like?
Yep, chase down the solder balls, flux etc.... Might be a waste though as the back of the boards, which is inaccessible, are probably in the same condition.
Gathering supplies for dim bulb tester, bulbs are hard to find, got one on order. Just need dual power socket with switch and sil pads. Got a couple of outputs on order from mouser. There will be a wait on parts, just have to be patient. Some good reference material there
I have questions, DBT, i use the switch to turn it on and off, but it is not a bypass switch to bypass the bulb.
Active goes thru switch then thru bulb positive to negative then that goes to active on power socket. Negative and earth go straight to socket. Good?
Yes, one leg goes thru the light to the amp, other leg from amp goes to the other AC in ...., so basically you have all the current going through the bulb filiment, the more current, the brighter the bulb. Feed the DBT with the Variac..
