Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

Have you just run the amp with no pre connected for a long period of time to see if anything repeats?

No. Do I have to sit it in a silent room and listen for any component failing sounds?

When a semiconductor in my Yamaha C-2a decided to go, it took out all the fuses in one of my PL400s with a very big bang.

Im thinking that the amp/pre combo dont like each other, the earth going to both phono earths of pre and amp solved the issue

You said it made a popping noise before in this thread. Does it do that sitting there with no pre connected?

I have not tried that, it could take days or weeks to fault again why do I have no pops when using the pioneer amp? I doubt the pre is at fault

You have to rule one or the other out. I don't really like the sound of I have to connect them with a wire.

If you want me to, I can hook up my spares to the wopl and run it without a pre. Then i can still use the pioneer for my tunes. The earth wire was only required when using the pioneer and 3600 pre.

Or I can just use the pioneer as a standalone, i hate its preamp but if its required I can do that.

You should find out what is happening that you have to connect a wire between your pre and the pioneer. Does the pioneer chassis have a voltage on it or does the PL pre have a voltage on it. Sounds like you are tying chassis to chassis together.

Im pretty sure it was to eliminate noise when running output from my pc soundcard

Yep I get a quiet buzz all the time with volume dial at 0 and no earthwire. P3600 pre and 9500s amp. This does not occur with the wopl.

What you should do is run your pre and pioneer combo to listen to tunes while leaving the PL700 sit with no input but spare speaks to see if it repeats on its own.

Secondarily, you should measure for any potential voltage from earth ground to the chassis of each device, the pre, the pioneer and the PL700 and take note of each.

Where do I get the ground from? Negative on ground and positive on the chassis?

Im guessing here but earth ground from the wall power socket to negative on dmm and positive going to chassis or earth point of amp? Forgive my silly questions
