Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

One thought on the need for connecting earth between units: the Puoneer has a narrow blade plug, yeah? Try flipping it to reverse the hot/neutral and see if that changes the hum/buzz situation.

I’m with Gepetto that a ground between them shouldn’t be needed.

Ok negative in earth of power socket, positive on ground/chassis of component.

When amp/pre connected together
Pioneer 1.1mv
PL P3600 -7.5mv

When disconnected both are zero.

I did these tests with no earth wire and when they were connected it was with the rcas from pre to amp

Tested wopl on its own and meter was all over the place from 0mv to -8mv

Thanks for your help bud
When i run the wopl on the spare speaks, volume pots up? And no input right?

Also should I continue to run the 2 amp rail fuses?

Right....but be careful ...you might have to short the inputs, meaning shorting plus to minus on each channel....try it without it with pots at minimum, then bring up the pots slowly...if it gets real noisy, short em...

And thank you Joe for your time. We will get this sorted.

Joe and Jim, will there be no harm to the pre or pioneer amp if I continue to run the earth wire?

Jim, the pioneer has a 3 prong plug which can’t be reversed. I also should mention that the pl p3600 pre runs off a step down transformer to convert from aus to usa voltage.

I dont think it will hurt, I know the earth wire should not be needed and the symptom is strange. But I have run over 100 hours like this while the wopl was awaiting repairs. Its the only way to get rid of that slight buzz.
