Carys

They are sending the meter today. I have a shaky pic of the amps at night. All my other tubes really glowed at night. These don't. Have to love burning in tubes. Every day is a new day.

I think meters are hot. I can use the EZ Bias/led settings on my amp but it seems prudent to use a multimeter. Would be nice to have.

They use a mic plug end. You plug it in. Not cheap my friend. 100.00 Gotta have it though. Do you need a DMM?

Larry

How do I explain this. Your tubes should work at a certain voltage depending where the bias is taken. On the Chinese amps I biased every tube to a certain voltage. These I just bias in one place in mV. I am still learning. These amps do not glow like the Chinese tubes did.

I noticed that too, even when I maxed em out on the horns, just barely glowed.

Testing them right now. Tubular Bells III will do the original in a bit . This is like I don't know what. Electronic music? Not a big fan of it.

Larry

Larry, Does your Carys have 2 bias pots, one for left and one for rights and 2 1/4 in phono jacks for the meter leads?

So How many milliamps do they want you to bias them at? I normally bias 6550 and KT88 tubes around 50-60 ma per tube. If your underbiased your plates will sometime start to turn red and overbiased your amp will sound flat or thin.

175 mA. For the SLM 100s. That is if I remember right. I am almost certain. I am doing all 4 at one point.

Plus you will get harmonics if to high. One amp is at 175 now. The other is around 160.. Only been running a few days. Will recheck them tomorrow.

Larry

Larry, With that setup you are biasing all 4 tubes at once. It is very important that all your tubes are matched. That seems a little low to me, but if that is what Cary recommends I would bias them to 175ma at the minimum. You can also put them on a scope and bias them more accurately
