Ben's (BubbaH's) Phase Linear 400 WOPL conversion

Thanks fellas. Having one myself currently.

Wopl is home and unpacked but I hear something rattling around inside. Gonna wait till Lee shows back up around here before I hook it up.

Happy Birthday, Ben. It's tough having to share the same day with the anniversary of your dad's passing. Too bad about the rattle inside the PL case. Better safe than sorry. You sure you don't want to pop the top off to take a look inside?

Nando.

I had a rattle in mine when it arrived.
Ended up being a clipped end of a tie-wrap head but sounded much worse when it moved around in the chassis.

Thanks Nando.

Not gonna mess with it tonight. In the morning ill open the top and check it out. Feeling a little less concerned after seeing your post Tony. Thanks.

Too worried about spilling a little beer into the exposed amp? Good boy. You'll need a clear head.

Nando.

Couldnt wait to get it home.

Time and a place for everything Nando, Cheers!

You crack me up, Ben - I wasn't expecting the picture of the Blue and the boxed PL amp in the box of your Ford F-250. Have a great night!

Nando.

12 pack or 24?

I can't wait to hear how this compares to your Bose amps. I like blue too.

Anything less than a 2-4 just means another trip to the beer store or a call to the delivery company.

This is the piece that was inside the amp. Looks to be a standoff or?

Now that its out, should I be worried to fire it up?

Anyone? Joe, Dennis, Jer? Itchin to try this beast.

Give it a good look with a flash light and rotate it in your hands, listening for anything else giggling.
Probably just a rogue piece.

That is one of the 4 standoffs used to locate the backplane boards, provide a thermal conduction path for the bias transistor and the frame ground connection point to the chassis.

There are 2 for each of the backplane board pair. Look behind the control board and confirm that there are 4 standoffs like this that are in place. If there are, then this is just an extra that got left behind in the assembly process. If not you are missing an element that should be restored to its rightful place. These standoffs are 6-32 on the top 2 locations and 4-40 on the bottom 2. That will help you zero in on where to look.

If the standoff is from one of these locations, then you have a loose screw floating around in the packaging as well and possibly up to 2 internal tooth lock washers as well.

Thank you very much Joe. The amp is closed up and set aside currently. I will take another look inside tomorrow. Glad I waited for this response.

Here are some pictures of the said standoffs...this shows the assembly in process so the large washer is not there after the assembly is finalized. That is simply holding the backplane in place during assembly.

WELL FUCK!! Sorry Ben. That should not have vibrated loose. I did not tighten it if it came loose...
