700/B/Ser II Transformers

Damn, lost Internet at the house. Perry, that 169 is center tapped so you have 84.5 before rectification per rail, 118 afterward...

Lee, did you not say these toroids were + and - 162VAC since it has dual secondary's??? The center tap sits at zero and the top sides of the secondary's go to + 162vac and - 162VAC????

No, it is 169 center tapped secondary.. 84.5---0----84.5, then off the rectifier you get plus 118, minus 118 for rail voltage...

if you have say 100V ac and rectify it, you always get less that the ac. Isn't the formula like .707 time the AC voltage is the dc??? so 100 VAC would rectify down to 70.7VDC???

They have dual primaries so you can series for 240 or parallel for 120. A Single 169, center tapped secondary, along with a center tapped 24, and an 18 (or 12, can't remember exactly)

No, ac voltage times 1.4, minus 1 volt equals DC voltage.

The .707 figure is how you arrive at RMS voltage from peak to peak....add those two and you have 1.4.....

right, the diodes in the rectifier drop like 600mv ok, and the .707 would be right but we have to add the negative swing for the other .707..... (.707 plus .707=1.4)

The secondaries on the 700 are 72 volts before rectification...

got it... I was stuck on the toroid... I thought it was 162 0 162 configuration. Sucks when you have no specs for shit....

Yeah, but I don't think that actually explains the whole process, I'm missing a step in there. You wind up getting the 1.4 multiple on the positive and the negative, that 707 plus 707 is just coincedence.

Yeah, but plus/minus 118 is about as much as you want to run on the 21196's

great, so I got toroid's for 2 mono's, DCP's..... soft starts on their way and 2 mono conversion boards on hold from Glen....... Shit, I shouldn't have sold those old Clair chassis'. I could have carved those up for the back plane sheetmetal. I'm going to have my bro build me a couple custom chassis' minus the old transformer hole, and beef them up.

I need to do a 3D scan of a 700 Chassis (the backplane portion) and have custom heatsinks CNC'd

Guess I better sell the extra toroids and my 2 extra DCP's to finance some parts (and fire extinguishers).....

The factory heatsinks will work, I'd prefer larger heatsinks meself. I was going to make some copper ones about 3-4 inches deeper than the stock ones...

It gets to be a pricey project in a hurry...

While they were charming wolverines for girlfriends, of course.

You are awesome as usual Double 0WOPL.
