You need center tapped secondaries to get a plus and minus rail voltage. Half of your secondary voltage X 1.4 , minus 1 volt , will be a close estimate for rail voltage...

You cannot go above 125v per rail and that is pushing it.

You used 2 toroids and rectifiers per channel and paralleled the rails?

Lee, I got a stack of those toroidals. Just got to find a pair of suitable aluminum cases that will look nice and match a pair of amps. Each box will have to fit 4 Caps and 2 toroids with associated rectifiers and wiring (maybe a fan).

Lee, I got a stack of those toroidals. Just got to find a pair of suitable aluminum cases that will look nice and match a pair of amps. Each box will have to fit 4 Caps and 2 toroids with associated rectifiers and wiring (maybe a fan).

The power supply will dwarf a 700. I mocked one up.....impressive to say the least. You will have to soft start the power supplies, I was tripping 20 amp breakers.....easily....

I was using 4--120 volt/35,000uf caps per channel, and had to pre-charge the caps using A DBT, the inrush was a killer. Toroids exhibit a greater inrush than a standard iron core transformer, so that's a factor also...

Yeah, i have been researching the soft start issue and i think i can buy a quality off the shelf unit. I'll keep you posted. As far as the part numbers for the toroids, they were a special wind from ocean-keen for a customer that went unused. You'll have to contact them for part number and duplication, these are not marked. I also have been researching the differences between a center tapped secondary and a dual secondary and apparently, you CAN use a dual secondary and just tie the 2 corresponding wires and get the same results as a center tap. You'll still get your + and - for rails after grounding the correct wires after tying.

A lot of the older PL's had 2 secondary windings, that's why you'll see 2 wires going to the bus bar....

Well, doing a schematic in CAD is no problem, it's the layout that's a bear. I shoulda just bought the whole ball of wax (gerbers etc...) and just built a box. I haven't done a layout in many years.

I'll have to give one of the Cineeze Soft start boards a test to see if they really work. It's even got thermal protection for those hot days.
