    HELP! Rescuing Dad's old PL400 S2 (pics)

The transistors only will fit one way. The pins are offset, so even though you can plug them in backwards, the screws won't line up and you'll know something is wrong. If you want to make sure they go back into the holes they came from, you can just number them with a Sharpie or something...

    Jase's New Pre-Amp....

Ah, proper circuit components. I like the input selector rigging. Rather than run feet of cable, just extend the shaft on the switch and minimize your wire runs.

    The Election!!!

Unfortunately I have to disagree with that statement. I present the vast majority of the people in DC as evidence that voters do NOT see through BS easily.

I also test transistors with the diode test function. Its not absolutely fool proof but it will identify shorts and opens very quickly. Half a volt is about right. If you get one that shows 0.001 or so, its shorted. If you just get a "1", its open. Most of the time when an output device fails...

    The Election!!!

I expect that to be a measure that you see popping up in a lot of states in the coming years. NJ officially has a medical program, but basically the gov doesn't like it so they've done everything you can imagine to stymie it. As far as I know, there are no growers and I don't know if they ever...

    What the Hell is This????

and big installs, yeah. It lets you run really long cables too, which is needed when you have hundreds of feet from mixing console to the amp rack. Regular unbalanced cables will tend to pick up more noise, and/or they have enough capacitence that it just smashes the highs.

    HELP! Rescuing Dad's old PL400 S2 (pics)

hmm, someone has been doing naughty things. Overly large fuses and mismatched output transistors is a no-no. One nice thing about the PL manuals is they explain the troubleshooting process fairly well. The first solid state amp I ever did any real amount of work on on was a PL 700-II. Its...

    The Election!!!

NJ came out exactly how I expected. The guy I voted for also got less than 1%. I'm so fed up with both of the major parties that I try and vote otherwise whenever I can. I know its mostly a futile effort, but if you can't vote in good faith for either of the two who are likely to win, what...

    What the Hell is This????

Interesting that its 1/4 jacks for balanced. I think the standard is XLR connectors, though I don't see where you'd fit a pair of those on a PL 700. My Pro 700 has 1/4 jacks, but its the standard unbalanced connection. A BALUN board could be a handy thing to have around, especially paired...

Thinking I should WOPL my 400 and looking for a 700

Thats the way of it. Spending $50 today to prevent a problem is not a priority, but spending $1000 tomorrow when you've ignored the problem until its too late seems to be no issue.

    BAXF'S

We have several 30 kva at work, but none live outside. The indoor air convection cooled units are quite a bit smaller. Ours are also 480 - 120 transformers, they run between the 480 3 phase panels and the indoor outlet panels. 3 phase 208v, or single 120v depending on what you're doing.

Thinking I should WOPL my 400 and looking for a 700

If you want the schematics for quasi and full comp to compare them, I think I have copies somewhere. But yeah, they were made both ways. I rebuilt a 700 series II for a friend that was quasi. My own amp is a Pro 700 that is full comp. If you're converting one, I expect the easy way to do...

100 Watt Bridge Amplifier Module Circuit

never could get my head around solid state amplifiers. Far too many parts to follow a signal path through without making my head spin.

    Alice Cooper: Not afraid...

I like Alice Cooper. Interesting guy, and out of character he's not what you'd expect. He had a syndicated radio show that ran on weekends here on the local classic rock station. No idea if he still does it, but its not on here anyway. That was good stuff, excellent music with storytelling...

    Gary's good tunes 700 build

that color goes best with fuck me pumps. Those screw terminal connectors are pretty common in industrial controls. Normally the wire is not tinned, its just twisted and inserted. The trick with it seems to be stripping enough wire to bottom out in the cavity and holding it there while you...

Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

just curious. Mine isn't trashed to the point of needing to replace the chassis. I wouldn't mind having the faceplate redone with the proper original markings and such but that would probably be as far as I go with it. Only reason I'd want the original markings is because its a less common...

Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

would the Series II faceplate and such bolt in too? yeah I'm the oddball Cylon-lover in the crowd. I like my Pro, but the faceplate is kind of beat on it.

Whats the new chassis material, looks like stainless? Also like the PEM nuts for threaded cover fastners vs the self-tappers that strip out like the stock design.
