Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

Thanks George. The loudness thing started at a very young age for me, when I had shit components. Stereos always sounded better with it switched on, but I knew nothing about sound quality back then. I am 43 now so it took some adjusting, I found if I really listen, there was plenty of bass...

Derek92994's 700 Ser II White Oak conversion

Acurus RL11 arrived today. Been busy testing and checking, then installing into the setup. Can run it direct to WOPL or via a switch box if I want to switch between it and the P 3600. Did some A/B listening like this. switching real time, carefully tested with WOPL pots down low at first, to...

My very heavily used stock TD 160 Super. V-15 III / SME 3009 Series 2 Improved. (Just realised I left the anti-skate weight off, was checking tracking force etc, oops)

Maybe it is the start of getting tables set up

Interesting. I own a TD 160 Super, totally stock, and am using the original rubber mat. Arm is SME 3009 Series 2 Improved, in terms of cartridges I have run Ortofon OM10/20, Garrott P77, Signet MR 5.0 Basic, Audio Technica AT440MLa/AT150MLx, and now am running a Shure V-15 Type 3, no complaints...

    Gasoline prices Skyrocketing!

I have an old 2003 Toyota Corolla, had just under half a tank in it. Put some fuel preservative in and topped the rest of the tank with 98 octane fuel at about $2.50 a litre, cost $60. Don't do many miles in it as it is a car I hang onto in case the company decides to stop allowing personal use...

    HF loss - general

Well that groove in the Aiwa 7000 head is quite bad, I do wonder if it was heavy use or an incorrect tape tension setting throughout the life of the head. Good point, thats why I didnt go removing the pads from my tapes, mainly so they would play on single capstan decks. I generally stick to...

    HF loss - general

Is the pressure pad really required for dual capstan decks? It seems to be the number one enemy here. I did a test once on a 3 head which did not have a pad lifter, it seemed to work fine with the pad removed.

NeverSatisfied is getting a fresh d500

The majority of the time I have the tone controls bypassed, with loudness on. There are maybe 10 albums I can listen to with loudness turned off. Been listening to amps all my life with the loudness on, albums seem to sound thin with it off. I don't get it. Help me understand this please.

NeverSatisfied is getting a fresh d500

All this Acurus talk is tempting me, how much better are they than the upgraded PL P3600? I have external phono stages so no problem without it built in.

NeverSatisfied is getting a fresh d500

I personally dont mind having different makes of components, but am quite attached to the PL P3600. Lee did such a good job on making that unit sing. An all PL system looks great. You could leave the 3000 in there and have an Acurus hiding elsewhere :evil4:

    Gasoline prices Skyrocketing!

There’s gotta be more to this, I notice basic food supplies creeping up and in some cases, the portions are getting smaller. Hyper Inflation here we come, its all a part of “The Plan” We have a small % of rich people in this world who have a serious mental illness, no empathy, compassion or...

    Micro (Seiki) BL-91 restoration

It was worse when I was younger, the most important thing was to make sure the unit didn't piss myself or anyone else off, ever again! I took to that one with a 5 and a half pound weight. Was going to pour fuel on it and set it alight :evil4: Luckily the boards were cheap, the Opamps were worth...

    Micro (Seiki) BL-91 restoration

The first one lacked bass, even with the bass pot turned all the way up, then I accidently put the 2134 opamps in upside down which killed the board. No great loss, the opamps survived. The 2nd one sounded fine, but when I went to upgrade the caps on it, the board was near impossible to work...

    Micro (Seiki) BL-91 restoration

Speaking of problems, I was messing around with cheap chinese made 12 volt preamps, with plans to run them off the pure battery powered setup. Cut a Long story short, both boards pissed me off, combined with a rough week and several other events, one ended up like this: Sticking to the mains...
