Little Vinyl Rant

No Joe, and I really don't know where he stows it, but when he was younger and didn't know the signfigance of that particular appendage and he would roll it out you could see the ladies just SQuIRM....

Lol. Years ago, Gene Simmons was on the Oprah show and she asked him how long his tongue was. He said - "long enough to make you friend for life". I saw the clip it was hilarious.

He is also member--"Guru" here....

And you've witnessed this lol?

By the way, what got me started with this thread was I've been lying sick in bed most of these past 4 days. You know I just got those 901's and they are very unkind to whatever the hell is going on with my vinyl set up. Sounds like SHIT! I found a sealed copy of I dunno Gary Wright "dream weaver". My wife was like "wow" that's what is sounds like when I turn the treble all the way up in my car! So I'm pissed! Lol

As far as levity goes, I think everyone needs to feel inclusive in their own way. For me I don't think writing mocking poetic verse about a member of the community is something that I could pull off without being offensive. But hey that's just me.

As far as vinyl goes, I'm likely just doing it wrong. The table I bought was from a friend who happened to be a dealer. Larry has also been helpful over time. I've tried a few things, a number of used tables. I haven't had the best of luck with used gear, and even my wife said to stop buying it because I kept having issues with it. I took it as a green light to spend a little money lol. Oops. But I did like the idea of buying something where I wasn't scrounging from some dead husbands collection of gear. God knows I have pile of that laying around.

But you bought a new pair of Bose 901s, Joe. That's no old man's hand-me-down, Joe. I would love to have a pair, myself. Is there something different about how your system sounds since running them through the Boses? With the phono gear you are presently running, do you know of any other friends in other forums running the same gear? That would help to narrow down what might be limiting your potential in your vinyl playback, beyond the tt speed issue.

Oh... we went out for pizza last night. One of the few times we didn't have it delivered.

Yes Joe, I have.........and it's...........um.........unsettling in some way......

It's totally different as I expected. And yes the system as it is running at the moment is now comprised of gear I bought new. My choice to buy the 901's was also an "opportunistic" purchase and I don't regret it. The Snells tweeters are fairly delapitated so I think they are just really forgiving and mellow, also a little fat on the bottom. I used to think years ago I would end up with 2 systems. One for chilling out, one for rockin out. If I had one decent SS amp, that's exactly what I would have here. I wasn't thinking that way originally, but I could see it happening. I did try swapping TT's and phono pre's after and it all sounds pretty bass shy.

I may send back the TT while it's still under warranty also. I probably am one of very few that do own that table lol, but I could check around.

I see a WOPL'd 400 in your future.... I can see when I get a little caught up a loaner is gonna have to be sent around. Perhaps we will suspend the lottery for a month or so and send that sweetie around. Shipping isn't much, with the cabbage case packing is worm proof. Keep it for a week and send it on.....

Ah that would be crazy cool!

Lee, you had 901's... Did they mess with your TT? Could I be getting some sort of feedback/isolation issue!?!?

@Nando- the other thing I noticed when I swapped over to my Techincs/AT440mla, the overall balance was about the same, but the AT was much more prestine in the high frequency area. That actually helped a little. Even my wife who could care less about any of this noticed the difference. I suppose having 18 drivers vs 2-4 driver playing garbage is going to be rougher.

I didn't think he was mocking anyone in particular, but rather the overall mindset of audiophilia. I believe he was saying that one cannot just buy their way to sonic nirvana, and we all sometimes get caught up in the prestige of owning certain pieces of gear. I know I do, and I regularly mock myself for it to the people I know. It's a phase linear thing, you wouldn't understand. (Maybe you would- I don't know your system.)

I can't speak for Orange, and maybe I'm totally off base here, but that's how I interpreted it. Divorced from this specific situation, it's still a nice piece of verse.

We need to look at what matters in audio reproduction. #1 on my list is flat on axis/ in room frequency response with a strong emphasis on the first arrival- i.e. less excitation of the room, which leads to emphasis of late arrival sound. This means a more tightly controlled directivity pattern for the speaker. If your system does not seek to provide fairly flat response, you're sunk from the start. 901's will have a larger sound-stage, but less pinpoint image due to the type of speaker they are (very wide dispertion), and this itself will seriously color what you are hearing, even with a flat in room response, which is unlikely since they bring the room (with all of it's problems) into the picture more strongly. They would not be my choice of speaker, but again- it's a hobby. It doesn't have to make sense to anybody (constitution on the head of a pin anyone?), much less people other than yourself. My advice would be to take some measurements at the listening position and worry about sources after that, then pre's and amps.

Wanna buy the Nikko back for your SS? J/K Which sound do you want to hear the most? I know what would leave if it was my house if I only wanted one system. would you build a system to the 901s? Could get spendy fast. Return your TT?

Nando I wish I could say I have 10X the LPs as CDs. My walls would be lined. Maybe one day. LOL

I still do but I can't even find my drill bits in there right now. One room at a time. Still trying to get that one bolt free on the Roberts and my practitioner doesn't do Fridays and I'm broke for another two weeks at this rate.

LEMMINGS. The other money order neveer got found so I have to see about the stop order and lose $15 of 59 when I spent 71 so my friend across the state wouldn't miss his rent and I already had the tapes I bought (not the Christmas ones).

But I'll find them. That room is next today.

Just add some two-ways with 10-12s and run them to the back.

I'm just being goofy. I don't care what you run, as long as you dig it.

I'm at the mercy of a dumb screw and can't afford canned cat food to keep my outdoor cats' fat content up this month and it'll be two weeks, if I can get my money order stopped and refunded at all. Oh well. What would I do about it? Just keep going.

I'm am at the mercy of all these fake watches, we need asian hooker spam!!!!!

Those listings are also gone...are you really not satisfied with an Aussie hottie in boots and topless?

Damn, dude, she's MY AGE!

I would do a snake if it was topless and in boots!

I thought the poem was funny really, and for some reason the sound of "rock lobster" stuck in my head along with it lol.

Your plight doesn't sound good. I remember a time, scrounging for change so I could get something to eat. But all this material stuff... I'd dump it all for some real happiness. Did someone say something about hookers?

Joe: I think your classic Bose 901s would be a nice match for the Phase Linear 400. But, Lee would have to at least offer it up for a month, or so, as a one week loan would be a complete tease. Now, for the preamp side of things had you not mentioned in a long ago post about PS Audio gear? Was it the power amp you had? A few weeks back I found a PS Audio IV preamplifier with the High Current Power Supply. I haven't tested it, yet, because of the holidays. If it works, would this be something you would like to try? If you read up on the PS Audio IV, or know of it, you will realize this preamp is specifically built as a phono preamp with a great amount of flexibility.
