With the rail voltage at around 106 VAC the measured output wattage across an eight ohm load will get you in the neighbor hood of approximately 500 watts Root Mean Squared (RMS) per channel. This should be one kick ass amp once it is done.

My first real speakers - two pair of 901s Series II. Those are now gone but they kicked ass.

Actually I was pretty sure you guys wouldn't jam me up on the Bose thing; there was a the reason I joined up here. I mentioned the 901s and nobody gave me any shit; actually had good things to say about them. I had bought the speakers because, as a child of the 70s-80s, listening to many different kinds of music, but really getting into rock and heavy metal, I read a few stereo magazines. I didn't have the funds, but always wanted 901s powered by a PL 700. I never even knew anyone that had a setup of them at home(I probably heard them in bars, but didn't know it). Now at age 45, I have sweated, saved, and starved, to get a few vintage hot rods and Harley Davidsons, the natural progression was to outfit my house with an old bar pool table and a bunch of vintage beer signs/neon/70s bar type stuff. It would just be plain wrong in my eyes to not have a sound system that not only cranks, but looks the part.

I remember seeing the 901s when they first came on the market. The demo at the stereo store put them up against many amps that would wilt while trying to drive them. Then they hooked up the Crown DC-300 and it was no sweat.

Although I never ended up with a set of 901s, I now have numerous DC-300s that I developed lot of respect for after that demo.

Most of the bars I've ever been in used a jukebox, maybe a receiver and a separate system especially for the karaoke/dances then yet another set when bands come to play (often the band's is just carted in and hooked up). A couple have used AAL/MTX and even Marantz speakers for jukebox extensions...one really cool old bar had SEEBURGS and the karaoke guy had Wharfedales!

So I gather the ones you frequented were a little more upscale.
