I've totally lost the plot....
Yesshows....

Sorry Blazes, but it just doesn't do it like Yessongs and 'Edge.
Right from the very beginning of Opening, 'songs seems to have continuity that 'shows lacks. The timing is spot on.
.... and the bass on 'songs is more present, but lacks really badly on 'shows.
Vocals are better too.
'songs is a diamond in the rough, and 'shows is too polished exposing it's flaws.....
Still, it's Yes, and a most worthy/necessary addition to the collection.

Thanx heaps for that.

B-daddy.

ps: and the songs are just so much better on Yessongs.
That double LP was their definitive moment.

No worries BD; we all have our favorites - that's what makes sharing about it so cool!
I always appreciate what other folks have to say about recordings; 'and you and I' is what it takes! :glasses8:
Just glad I turned you on to another piece of the Yes puzzle for your library.

I bet it grows on you over time though.. :happy6:

BTW BD, one of my pet peeves about the original recording was the shallow bass so if your FLACs are from that source, I'd agree that the sonics are lacking in that department..

It most certainly won't be the only time I play it.
So many times things haven't grabbed me straight off, yet ended up being highly regarded eventually. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, or had different expectations. Who knows....
There was one thing that sort of bugged me, which I find common on nearly all their recordings of the time, is that they intentionally pull 60Hz out of the EQ. It just doesn't show up on an analyzer at all. Must be an English thing.... as I've found that to be common with lots of early English recordings. (they seem to be so afraid of bass, and I'm not quite sure why, although I have my theories.)
Also 'cause I play the earlier ones more regularly, (it's what I grew up with), I'm just not as familiar with later tunes as I should be. That was about the time that I was working a lot more seriously and just lost track of Yes (plus a heap of others), for quite a few years, especially from around Topographic Oceans right through to the early/mid 2000's.
There's a sh*tload of music I haven't heard which would take a couple of lifetimes to listen to, and I just don't think I have that much time.... LoL

Thanx B for the insight.... ;)

Yes - Yesshows - Remastered 1980 [EAC - FLAC]

Yesshows is the second live album by British progressive rock group Yes. Released shortly after the
appearance of Drama, Yesshows comprises live performances ranging from the summer of 1976 to the
supporting tour for Tormato in 1978. The album's release was supervised by bassist Chris Squire.

Like the group's previous live album, Yessongs, Yesshows begins with a recording of Igor Stravinskys
Firebird Suite. Unlike the Yessongs version, the band members may be heard playing in tandem with the
Stravinsky track on this recording.

Although Rick Wakeman is the keyboardist on most tracks, the 1976 performances ("The Gates of Delirium"
and "Ritual - Nous Sommes du Soleil") feature Patrick Moraz. Moraz left Yes just before the recording
of Going for the One.

On the original double vinyl LP, "Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil)" was split in two, with its second
half continuing on Side D of the record. For the CD edition, it was stitched back together, although
each part is allotted its own track number.

The album shows photographs of the band's late 1970s live stage performances. Around 1977 they developed
the idea of a circular rotating stage, known informally as performing "in the round", with Jon Andersons
microphone hanging from the ceiling of the venue.

Recorded 17 August 1976 - 28 October 1978....Released 24 November 1980

BD, it's hard to tell if the FLACs you have are the Japanese remasters from 2009. There's a signature in the original masters that made its way to the pressings that sort of sounds like a high pitched tape flutter at one point.
I'd have to think about it a while and locate where it is on the original source, but it was corrected on the 2009 release - among other things. Interesting insight to the 60 HZ notching you spoke of; I've never
really thought about it that way before but it makes some sense to me as the Parlophone releases of The Beatles were thin on bass..

There was some sort of anomaly which made me look up at the time, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it was now, but the tape thingy you mention, just might have been it, or I could be just imagining it now, as it's really close to the end of my day, and I'm soooo ready for bed, but if you find it, let me know.
Wot really confuses me is that Chris Squiers oversaw the whole project, which makes me think, it just might be further along the chain, and all I can think of, it was the 'cutters'.
Due to the fact they were 'Suites' meant they had to fit the record, and wot easier way to do that than to pull 60Hz, which would make the grooves fit that much tighter. It's not as if you can just drop a song. You'd be losing a third of a side if you did that....
Plus add to that the Englander's phobia towards bass, (you only have to listen to anything done by the BBC, who just happened to set the standards of the time), and that would explain a lot.
Now I know that any fellow members from the British Isles would pro'ly wildy disagree with me, but that's because you have been conditioned for all these years to accept White Noise as opposed to the much gutsier Pink Noise as the standard. Well I've said it before, and I'll say it again, that's why God invented the Loudness and Bass and Treble Controls. So you can turn 'em up, and put some life and dynamics back into the music, even if it wasn't there before...... Nothing is definitive. Use a bit of imagination when listening to your music. It doesn't have to be 'Flat'. Flat goes nowhere. The world is not flat. Neither should be the music...

See wot happens when I stay up past my bedtime?

Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah....

Going going gone...... :sleepy1:

Broken beyond repair but highly affable

Yep. On Gonzo.

If you're into the videos, the ABWH DVD from the 1990 Shoreline Amphitheater show is nice one!

OOP but shows up from time to time on eBoy.
I think Gonzo has a different version, different venue from that tour on DVD as well.. :salute:

B, just got home to find I got the Live CD in the bag, now I'm just waiting for the DVD to finish.
That's a biggie at 7.7Gb. Still another (30%) 3 hours to go for that one. Very slow connection, but it's getting there. It'll be something to watch when I wake up.
Anyway, had a difficult night tonight installing and tuning an IMAX system in my mate's recording studio (as his monitors), so I'm gonna have an early night for a change. I'm totally exhausted.

Off to La La land.....
