Should do. The cables actually go through the middle of the first board so there's lots of slack for servicing I guess .
There's nuts behind all the 6 knobs and 3 screws underneath. Be careful of the LED on the front panel.
Too bleary eyed to see anything else. After all it is 3am here.
Good luck.

You have the 3rd series , because the front board is soldered to the mother board .
On the front panel it's written "ambience / 2 channel ".
In this case caps are O.K. You have only to replace RCA connectors .

Ciao

You have to remove the bottom panel ( 6 lateral screws and two screws in the center )

Regardless of all the recommendations to shoot it, that's not really in the spirit of this place, 'Phoenix'.
Resurrect it to rise and live another 'lifetime'.

But then you see the 1000 cracked solder joints and give it a drop kick.
In my two units mother boards are O.K.
Probably the reason is that there are two versions .
First version has power transformer located on the mother board instead on the rear panel .
See service manual .
Probably first versions were critic .Also front panel was replaced with a new version .
S/N of my units are 3xxx and 4xxx .
Ciao
Marco

I use my 4000 daily, love it. I ONLY use it as a power strip for other switched equipment. I like the relay in it because it is big and beefy and can switch loads nicely. I like the nice power bat lever switch to click in the relay and light the red power light.

Other than that, I use an Acurus for my real preamp :)

The 4000 is everything the guys here say, and then some...

Carver C-1 is a cheap and VERY upgradable unit and will last your life.
I have the 4000 series II, never a bit of trouble while I had it. The Autocorrelator was wonderful, beginning to crap out. Will hit the solder joints and keep it.

Looking for a C-1 myself, the upgrade kit isn’t expensive, and I wanna play around with the sonic holography. Considered the Carver 4000 for a while, but that motherboard/daughtercard arrangement is still there. Decided to pass.
